Alexandra McLeod, a.k.a. Alex, is a freshman at Montclair State University and she is very involved on campus! She is in LASO (Latin American Student Organization), FLLP (Financial Literacy Leadership Program), and ALPFA, which is a business club that is open to all majors. In LASO, she is a part of the events committee and she is planning an event in April! “I’m planning an event called ‘Latin Arts Night’ on April 3rd. I will be managing it and I am so excited.” Alex also tells HCM about FLLP, “FLLP is a part of EOF and I learn how to finance money. I find that very helpful.” Lastly, Alex is the secretary of ALPFA and she enjoys being the secretary, “Being the secretary is great because they have faith in me to be on the executive board and I am so grateful. In ALPFA, we get interview tips, I get to network, and it will look good on my resume.” Alex loves being a part of so many great clubs at Montclair State.
Alex is a history major at Montclair State and she knew that she wanted to be a teacher since she was in high school. “In high school, I had a great teacher, Father Murphy; he gave me guidance and helped me figure out what I wanted to do in life. He helped me see the light in choosing a career.” Alex is planning on teaching beyond the textbooks; she wants to use movies and real life experiences to make history more interesting to learn. “Memorization can only take you so far, I want my students to relate to what I’m teaching, but more importantly I want them to enjoy history.” Alex tells HCM about how she wants to give back to her community. “I want to go back to my community to help out and give back. My community means a great deal to me so when I become a teacher I want to educate the children in my neighborhood.” She has wonderful plans for her community and she is determined to make her plans come true.
Alex gets her support from her family, but mainly her mother. Her mother supports her with her dreams of becoming a high school teacher. “My mom supports me so much; she has always been there for me. Of course I have friends that are there for me, but unfortunately friends come and go sometimes. My mom is my backbone and she keeps me going; she gives me stability.” High schools get ready for Alexandra McLeod because she is going to make a difference one day!
