Spring is just around the corner, and you and your friends are getting ready for college kids’ favorite time of year, SPRING BREAK. Most of you are probably headed to the beach, or at least to somewhere you can sport your sexy bathing suit. You know where you are staying, you know who you’re spending the week with, but wait, there’s one thing you’re missing. That spring break body! Your skin hasn’t been exposed to the beautiful sun, and all those calories from drinking sure aren’t helping. But don’t you fret my fellow collegiates, I am here to save the day and help you get ready for spring break.

  1. Have a simple diet. SIMPLE. Don’t starve yourself, ladies. Cut down on fried foods, butters, chips, and refined foods. This means no more Moe’s, no more Chick-fil-a, and no more pit desserts. Additionally, NO MORE LATE NIGHT EATING (sorry Shorty’s)! Rather than eating huge meals during a pit sit with your friends, try to eat smaller meals. There are endless amounts of salads in the pit, Benson, or Subway. There are also delicious and healthy sandwiches and wraps that you can create. In the pit, make your own pasta plate with delicious and fresh steamed vegetables. For breakfast, pass on the pancakes and have some whole wheat toast with egg whites. Eat slowly and make sure you aren’t eating so much that your stomach hurts.
  2. EXERCISE! Yes it may be cold out, but you still need to make it to the gym. Try to spend an hour there doing abs, lifting weights, or on a machine. Try to do a little bit of everything. At least 30 minutes of weight training and abdominals and at least 30 minutes of aerobic exercise. Don’t forget that in addition to the gym, there are also great classes in the Miller Center including spinning, Zumba, and kickboxing that give you a great workout while still being a lot of fun. That being said, while you’re on vacation, make sure to do a couple sets of pushups or curls right before you step out of your door to emphasize your toned body.
  3. Drink WATER! Being in the sun all day makes our bodies dehydrated, so be prepared and drink as much water as you can. If you get bored of the water taste, you can add flavoring like lemons or crystal light. [pagebreak]
  4. Getting that tan. This is only for people who are interested in having a pre-tan before they leave. Though tanning beds and spray tans are popular, spray tans don’t always come out right and tanning beds are extremely dangerous for your body. So what should you do? Can I hear JERGENS! Jergens is a lotion with a bit of shimmer that darkens your skin and adds a little sparkle to it. You can control how dark you want to get and it is not dangerous for your skin. Having a base tan can also minimize your potential to get burned when you’re outdoors. Additionally, when you are on vacation, make sure you  apply sunscreen; it’s important and will help you in the long run.
  5. Though we all hate to have to think about it, we all have hair…everywhere. Before you leave for your fun week, make sure you are well groomed so you won’t be embarrassed while flaunting your pretty bathing suit. If you don’t want to shave, use hair remover lotion, tweezers, or wax. Whatever it takes, get rid of that hair.
  6. Have the attire. Make sure you try on your bathing suits before you leave. The winter is not always our best friend and sometimes we don’t notice the extra weight we put on. Make sure everything fits before you pack it. And if it doesn’t, well then you have another excuse to go shopping!

Enjoy your spring break girls and make it one to remember!
