Thank you, YouTube! Have you ever had questions about a beauty product? Ever wonder how to accomplish the perfect eye makeup? Or are simply intrigued to watch a haul video on YouTube.com? Personally, the answer is yes to at least two of these questions. I have recently become obsessed with watching YouTube channels made by young women that address subjects ranging from hair care to fashion. I’ve found that most of my questions, whether they be beauty or fashion related, have a corresponding video.  As a viewer, you do not need to feel embarrassed about having questions about how to put on mascara correctly or how to walk in high heels. The channels and the subcribers who watch the videos posted are almost like a community. Viewers can request video topics as well as respond to questions asked by the video poster. Interaction is constantly occurring between the video poster and viewers. In fact, the number of subscribers and video views of some channels is impressive.

Another great reason to watch a video is for a product review. One of the best parts of these video bloggers is that a good proportion of posted videos are about reviewing products. They test the products and give their personal reviews of said item. This is helpful when deciding if you want to spend X amount of money on a single product. I’ve found, at least personally, that most reviews are credible. However, the final decision to purchasing an item should be your decision. A review is an opinion. If you find that the review was correct, then so be it. But you may find that another product works best for you. Either way I find that gaining information about products from reviews extremely helpful.

A few of my favorite channels to subscribe to are ARose186, GlamTwinz334 and StilaBabe09.

In terms of beauty, one of my main concerns is hair. As an African American female, watching videos provides me with a venue to educate myself about my hair type while at home.  I want to know what products have the best results for my hair type and how to correctly manage my hair regardless of how I style it. The channel GlamTwinz334 is a wonderful channel for women of color. Twin sisters Kendra and Kelsey Murrell created this channel. Their channel has various videos about how to manage one’s hair naturally and when it has been straightened. I find that some of their videos can be immensely informative and helpful. There is something liberating about having a question or interest and being able to find a video addressing this subject.
