Whether you live in Boston year round or are visiting for vacation, this great city brings performing arts to life. From music to dance to acting, there is a show for everyone. I personally love the experience of escaping reality and enjoying the magic that happens on stage. Every Broadway show and concert I have been to has had me in my seat amazed. The characters come to life, the song and dance send chills up my spine, and the shows are truly remarkable. Boston is the home to so many theaters and performance halls that we are lucky enough to be the stop for many touring shows. What makes going to a show in the city even better is having access to so many restaurants, stores, bars, and parks to explore before and after seeing a show. This turns an average day into a mini vacation! Below read about my top 5 venues in Boston and events I think are must-sees!
Boston Opera House
This opera house, located on Huntington Avenue, was opened in 1909 and was the home of the Boston Opera Company. It was designed from French and Italian inspired architecture and is breathe taking. If I had to suggest some upcoming events to see I would see any of Boston Ballets’ shows, either All Kylian or Sleeping Beauty. Also my favorite Broadway show of all time will be in Boston, Wicked!!
Wang Theatre
The Wang Theater, located on Tremont Street in Boston, was originally known as the Metropolitan Theatre. After a few more name changes and a history of rich performances, the Wang Theatre today has combined with Citi to create an amazing performing arts center. Some must sees at the theatre are Peter Pan, Medium Theresa Caputo, and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
The Wilbur Theatre
This historic theatre is located right in the city on Tremont Street in the theater district. It was the first venue in Boston to bring American Colonial architecture to the city rather than European design. Upcoming events I would recommend seeing at the Wilbur include comedian Bob Saget and the band the Great Big Sea a Canadian folk-rock band.
Fenway Park
Many people know of Fenway Park as the baseball park home to the Boston Red Sox. Lucky for us Bostonians, the park is not only for baseball games. Many other sports and shows use the space to draw in large crowds of fans. If you are in Boston in the summer time I definitely make Fenway Park a must-go place. Check our Jason Aldean, Jake Owen, and Miranda Lambert at Fenway Park this summer if you are in the mood to put on some cowboy boots and enjoy country music in the sun.
TD Garden
The TD Garden, New England’s Premier Sports and Entertainment Arena, is the place to be for any major event in Boston. Home of the Boston Celtics basketball team and the Boston Bruins hockey team, any famous touring show makes this venue a top stop on their tour. The list of teams or artists who have shown off their talents here for their fans is too long to even count! The Garden is amazing and every time I am there the experience is amazing. Celtics games are fun and the fans are excited and ready to cheer on their team. I have seen a touring dance show, So You Think You Can Dance, the arena is huge but you still feel about of the show. I would recommend attending a sports game; Bruins are in season! Also upcoming concerts include Beyonce, Dropkick Murphy’s, Bruno Mars, and Justin Beiber.
