4 Spring Runway Trends You Can Wear Right Now

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Carleton chapter.

Though we’ve just entered March and there’s still snow on the ground and a chill in the air, spring is on the horizon, my friends. Of course, the first true indicator of spring, despite popular belief, is not the groundhog, but spring fashion collections. The spring 2013 fashion season is definitely underway, with looks already being shown by Chanel, Oscar de la Renta and the like. Unfortunately, the time for shorts and dresses is not yet nigh. There are, however, a number of ways to embrace the spring trends while still dealing with the cold. Here are some trends that you can easily start working right now!

  1. Ankle Boots

Whether they are heeled, flat, coloured or neutral, ankle boots are everywhere in Spring 2013 fashion. They’re on the runway and being featured by fashion bloggers from all over, and they’re also in store, being featured as Aldo’s must-have spring item. The best thing about ankle boots is how easily they can transfer across all seasons and occasions. Even if there is still snow on the ground, a completely closed, flat, or thick heeled boot is the perfect way to start to get your spring on. Just wear some warm socks underneath!

  1. Stripes

Stripes are my absolute favourite. They’re versatile, flattering and completely adorable. I’m thanking the gods of fashion that they have been greatly featured so far on the spring runway, making them a staple for spring trends. From Marc Jacobs to Michael Kors, the full-body, bold stripe is loud and proud. Stripes can definitely be worn now as well; it doesn’t have to be full-bodied and bold. It can be more subtle and only a piece: a scarf, a top, and a pair of pants. Stripes can be incorporated so easily into any wardrobe, so there is no excuse not to be on trend here. Who doesn’t want a little pattern in their lives, anyway?

3) The Suit

Clean, suave, and tailored. The suit is a classic symbol of, well, class, but is definitely not just for the boys anymore. The fitted, feminine suit is here for spring, and it is perfection. The suit is the essence of looking well put together, but with spring’s bright colours and patterns it does not only have to be a subdued black or navy. A full suit is certainly not always called for in day-to-day life, especially at university, but just like with stripes, it can always be broken up into pieces. Go the route of a fitted blazer. It’s timeless and sophisticated, but can simultaneously be fun and fresh with spring’s colours.

4) Leather

Okay, here’s the thing about leather. It’s a bit tricky because a lot of people don’t support wearing it and opt for fake, but the real deal has been popping up all over the spring runway. Leather is maintaining its trend factor that started up in the fall. What’s great about leather is it’s another one of those trends that can be worn all kinds of ways. For winter, I’d recommend pant form or coat form. It’s too cold for anything else right now, and if you want to go the way of fake leather, I say more power to you!
