Girls Review: The Girls Need to Get it Together

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hamilton chapter.

On the second to last episode of the second season of GIRLS, all of the girls seem to be hitting rock bottom. Hannah is still struggling with major OCD and anxiety due to stress from her book deal. She rather crazily stuck a Q-tip very far down her ear and had to go to the hospital (without pants on). On the way home from the hospital, Hannah is surprised to run into Adam, who is on a date. When Hannah gets home, she continues to bask in her insanity and sticks a Q-tip down the other ear (chick needs to get her shit together). After Adam runs into Hannah on his date, he goes back into the party where Natalia is, and orders himself a jack and ginger (not a good move for a recovering alcoholic whose been sober since 17). Back at his apartment with Natalia after the party, Adam orders Natalia to “go on all fours” and proceeds to perform weird sexual actions to her that only Hannah would be okay with. We can tell that Natalia was not happy because she stated, “I really did not like that.” Seems like Adam may have fucked up this new relationship (way to go!). Even Shoshanna wasn’t doing too well this episode. She attended Charlie’s work party with Ray and a donut on her head (enough with the weird-ass hairstyles). She still has not told Ray the truth about fucking a doorman, which seems to be driving her insane and causing her to act like a paranoid, psycho person. She did end up telling Ray that she held hands with a doorman but that does not sound like the whole truth to us. Blinded by love, Ray takes her word for it that holding hands is as far as it went (seems like there may be trouble in paradise if Shoshanna does not come clean). Arguably the craziest of all in this episode was Marnie, who is really going off the deep end. Marnie more than willingly attends Charlie’s work party as well, but she has a surprise planned up her sleeve. Amidst the celebration for Charlie’s company, Marnie grabs a microphone and performs a wonderful rendition of Kanye West’s “Stronger.” After her performance is complete Charlie furiously pulls her into one of the offices and reprimands her for “flailing” AKA being an insane person. After he yells at her a little bit he cannot help but unzip his pants and have sex with her. Who knows where this is going to take their complicated relationship.

Well, as you can probably see, the girls (and guys) are not doing too hot. They are all dealing with pretty serious personal issues and really need to start getting their shit together after a season of downfalls. Hannah needs to get more help with her OCD and anxiety, Adam needs to stop pretending to be something he is not (normal), Shoshanna needs to grow up, stop being paranoid, and tell the truth, Marnie needs to figure out what she wants to do with her life, and Charlie needs to face the fact that he is still in love with Marnie (stop pretending, broccoli head). Oh yeah, and Jessa needs to come back (where is she?!). In the season finale next week we hope to see some changes for the better in the lives of all the characters and we would love to see Hannah and Marnie become friends again.
