For the past few months, you’ve heard your friends plan every detail of their PCB trip, watch them create a packing list, and brag about how tan they’re going to get. Your plans? You’re heading home. Although it may not be as exciting as venturing off to a beach, there are plenty of things you can do in your hometown to have a memorable Spring Break.
1. Avoid social media
It’s always tempting to curl up on the couch and spend hours scrolling the Facebook newsfeed. However, seeing pictures of your classmates posing on the beach or having fun in an exotic club is bound to make your envious. A study by German researches found that almost one third of Facebook users have negative feeling while using the social network website, and most of them linked back to jealousy. Although it’s a tad unrealistic to avoid social media for a week, try to stay off of it as much as you can.
2. Spend time with your family
Whether you want to admit it or not, you’ve missed your family while at school. Since you’re at home for a week, use that time to reconnect with them on a one-on-one basis. Go on a lunch date with your mom, play a round of golf with your dad, and take your sister out for ice cream. They’ve likely been curious to hear about your college adventures. Just make sure you mention your (hopefully) stellar grades.
3. Enjoy a spa day
You’ve been working your tail off all semester, so you deserve a little rest and relaxation. Although you may not be tanning on a beach, you can still pamper yourself at home. Treat yourself to a back massage, pedicure, or facial at your local salon. Trying to stick to a college budget? Gather some girlfriends back home for a spa day! You’ll head back to school glowing!
4. Visit a local park
It’s been a long and snowy winter, so enjoy some time outside at your neighborhood park! Pack a lunch and enjoy a picnic with some friends. When you’re done eating, enjoy some outdoor activities, like flying a kite or walking on a nature trail. If you really want to feel like a kid, play on the nearest swing set. It’s the perfect way to kick back and relax after a busy semester!
5. Shop spring sales
Remember those tank tops and shorts that hit the shelves the day after Christmas? Chances are, they’re now on sale! Use the money you’ve worked for all semester to shop for a new spring wardrobe. If you hit the mall on a weekday, you can even avoid the crowds! Your PCB friends will be jealous of the deals you scored when you rock your new pieces back at school.
6. Give back
Not having class for an entire week means that you have zero excuse to not volunteer. Give back to your community by planting trees, tutoring at a local elementary school, or working at a soup kitchen. You’ll meet new people and feel good for helping others. Remember, any Spring Break can be a blast. Just make the most out of where you spend it and it’ll be a week to remember.
