While many people believe that Spring Break is the pinnacle of spring semester, the Greek community at UGA knows that it’s really just the pre-game. Once the Greeks file back to Athens from Gulf Shores, Key West, Mexico or any other popular spring break destinations, spring parties are in full force.

What to Expect

For your average spring party grab your friends and a mixer and head on over to the fraternity. Often times, the fraternities do not have enough space to hold everyone so the parties are held at a field. In that case, the fraternity will usually have cabs busing people back and forth between the house and the field. Once at the location, there will be a stage set up for a musical performer. Normally, the artists are of the more obscure and funky, electro genre (think, Cherub, Ghostland Observatory).  Have fun with your friends as the day turns into night to the soundtrack of the band!

What to Wear

Spring parties are not about the newest and coolest fashion designers, but quite the opposite. A thrift store outfit is celebrated and worn by almost everyone. Ironic animal t-shirts were extremely popular at last years spring parties and I predict a strong return rate for them for this year’s parties. Funky tops from brands like Show Me Your Mumu and Urban Outfitters are also very popular. Most girls wear jean cut-offs paired with cowboy boots or sandals. Feel free to show off your creativity with your outfits!

Helpful Hints

  • These parties can go on all day, so pace yourself!
  • Remember to bring everything you think you could possibly need, the taxis only run for so long.
  • There will only be Port-o-potties so prepare yourself for long lines.
  • Stay hydrated! These parties are outside and the weather can get pretty hot.
  • Charge your phone before you go
  • Make a game plan with your friends so no one gets lost or forgotten
