Rachel Bell – CC ’16

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Columbia Barnard chapter.

Name: Rachel Bell

Year: 2016

School: Columbia College

Major: Evolutionary Biology of the Human Species (probably!)

Hometown: Los Angeles, CA

Relationship Status: Happy!

On-Campus Activities: I’m an EcoRep on the Composting Committee, I was an illustrator for Spec during the fall semester, and I love going to the Artist Society Sketches.

Off-campus activities: I’m currently illustrating a book written by Professor Ruth Defries. It’s exciting!

Favorite class you’ve taken at Columbia: Human Species: Its Place in Nature. It was like an epic adventure across our evolutionary history. And it’s taught by Jill Shapiro, so of course it’s good!

Favorite professor you’ve had at Columbia: Jill Shapiro is amazing. Seriously, if you haven’t had a class with her yet you should give it a try.

 Pet-Peeves:

Dream Job: Conservation Biologist working with a non-profit organization.

If you were stuck on a deserted island, you would need: Food, my best friends, and a really good book!

Every girl needs these three things in her closet: Combat boots, black leggings, and a sundress.

Your perfect date in 7 words or less: Art museum, tasty picnic, and cuddling afterward.

Favorite off-campus location:

Favorite thing about NYC: It’s a tie between all the amazing restaurants and the exceptional art scene.

Spirit Animal: A chickadee bird, according to my floormates. :P

Dream husband:

One thing you want to do before graduating: Go through the tunnels!

Top three albums/songs of all time: It would be hard to choose only 3 songs! I’ll do albums instead:

-Pretty Hate Machine-Nine Inch Nails

-xx-The xx

-Houses of the Holy-Led Zeppelin

If you could have a super power what would it be and why: Total time control. It’s the ultimate super power!

If you could invite anyone to dinner, you would ask: Gabriel García Márquez. He’s my all-time favorite writer, and I can only imagine how fascinating a conversation with him would be.

Elena is a sophomore at Columbia University majoring in English. In her free time, she writes for Her Campus and news for Spectator. She loves New York and her friends.
