We caught up with this week’s news for you!

World

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un made headlines this week with his sporadic behavior and vague threats directed at South Korea and the United States.  The country claimed to enter a “state of war” with South Korea and the U.S., leaving many diplomats and analysts struggling to understand Jong Un’s motives.

Wondering what’s up with the pink equals signs that have overtaken your Facebook and Twitter this week?  These “equality boxes” were created by the Human Rights Campaign and are being spread to show unity between supporters of marriage equality. This past week, same-sex marriage supporters and protesteters alike have been camped out in the nation’s capital as the Supreme Court hears multiple cases on the issue.  California’s Proposition 8, which denies same-sex couples in California the right to marry, is being challenged in the nation’s highest court, while the constitutional legality of the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act is also being questioned by the justices.

Colorado is well known for its fresh powder, scenic views, and… big-game hunting? The latter of the state’s claims to fame fell into jeopardy last week, when the western state passed a law making it a criminal offense to lend out guns for more than 72 hours.  The measure also calls for stricter background checks when purchasing firearms.  Many out-of-state hunters are threatening to boycott Colorado and hunt elsewhere.  This could pose a problem for the western state, where 15% of big-game licenses are held by out-of-staters, and much of the local rural economy relies on vacationing sportsmen.

High-end fitness apparel brand lululemon had trouble finding its inner balance this week, when it was reported that a recent batch of the company’s $100 yoga pants were see-through, according to customers.  To make matters worse, women who attempted to exchange their reveling pants claim they were forced to bend over and prove the sheerness of the product to a store associate – although the company denies this is protocol.  Lululemon also denies any recent changes in production or quality control.

Entertainment

Ah, who could forget gold medalist swimmer Ryan Lochte, the infamous heartthrob of this summer’s London 2012 games.  He gained attention and fame for not only his athleticism, but for his superb interviewing skills as well — not to mention his creative choice in phone backgrounds (see link).  Lochte is back in the headlines this week for his upcoming reality series What Would Lochte Do?, set to premier on April 21st.  Jeah!
