Since Mother Nature decided to be a serious brat this semester, I am sure the entire Boone population is craving warm weather. Lucky for us, it looks like the temperatures are finally starting to rise.  There is a little over a month left of classes and everyone is getting their plans situated for break. Although summer classes are a bummer, Boone is a great place to live in the summer. The sun is bright, the nights are cool, and there are tons of fun activities to partake in. Here is my list of necessities for any collegiette staying in Boone:
Chacos: I have to admit, I was completely against the Chacos trend when I first came to Boone. Clearly they are not the most fashionable shoes out there, but their practicality definitely outweighs that aspect. They are perfect for hiking, river tubing, and walking around town. Check Mast General Store in Valle Crucis for deals; I found mine for half price last summer, score!
IPhone LifeProof Case: They are not lying with the name; this case is an absolute life saver! The case is waterproof, dirt-proof, snow-proof, and shock-proof. If this isn’t a Boone necessity, I don’t know what is. This case even allows you to take underwater pictures with your iPhone, how cool?!
Sunscreen: I am aware I am probably beating a dead horse with the sunscreen lecture, but here goes anyway. Whether you are swimming or hiking or simply walking to class, the sun in Boone can be brutal! I recommend using a moisturizer with SPF in it and, of course, adding sunscreen when spending the day outside.Â
Hardy bathing suit: My favorite thing to do during the summer is going to the dam, otherwise known as “Boone beach.” Along with this spot, there are a number of swimming holes to visit. Some require a little hike first, though. It may be best to leave the Victoria’s Secret swimsuit at home. I recommend a supportive suit for any hiking or jumping off the dam or rocks. Also, choose a bathing suit that can stand the mud and rocks. Your suits may end up with a little wear and tear from the swimming holes, but it is totally worth it.
Sunglasses and croakies: I love my sunnies, but, unfortunately, they are not unstoppable. They take quite a beating during the summer time. Croakies are a crucial investment. Not to mention, they are a cute summer accessory. My croakies are probably the only reason my sunglasses are not floating down the New River. I suggest finding a durable or inexpensive pair for your summer adventures.
Summer will be here at the drop of a hat, so now you can start preparing. With these items, you will be sure to have a fabulous Boone summer.
