People may think dating in college is like a sober Saturday night…it just doesn’t happen. But there are some of us out there that have been able to keep a relationship going even with the stress college can bring upon us. A relationship with someone you care about can be awesome when you two find ways that work for you. So here are 10 tips that can be helpful in making your own relationship turn into something lasting.
.) Go on adventures– especially if you are just starting to date, going out and walking around Wagon Hill or Adams Point is a great way to just talk and get to know more about each other. With the weather getting progressively nicer each day this would be a great activity to do on a Saturday afternoon.
.) Keep the spark alive- once you get bored with someone things start to go downhill fast. We are all college kids who live to have an awesome time. Try and come up with a list of things you two have never done before and accomplish one every weekend.
.) Find ways to be comfortable with each other- this tip comes with just spending a significant amount of time together. But once you get to the point that you can 100% truly be yourself, there really is nothing better than being with your best friend.
.) Set time aside for just the two of you- we are all so busy during the week between classes, work or sports so finding time (even if it is just one or two days a week) where you two can be by yourself is important for a healthy relationship. It give you time to relax and talk about the two of you.
.) The little things count- we all love to be spoiled by a man, but don’t forget they equally like to be spoiled too. Even just picking him up a Franz’s JB on a Sunday morning on your way to his place is a great little surprise that he will thank you for.
.) Have time to miss them- although spending time together is important, being apart is also important for a healthy relationship. Make sure there are times where you actually miss him, because you will end up appreciating the time you have together even more.
.) Find the balance between friendships and relationships- this can feel like one of the hardest things in the world when you first start to date someone. You want to spend all your time with them but still not forget about your girlfriends! Try and find ways to either incorporate your girlfriends and your boyfriend or set aside special time for you friends like getting coffee once a week or a mani/pedi date on the weekends.
.) Honesty is the best policy- It’s extemely important to be up front, tell the truth, and avoid hiding things from each other. Nothing ruins a good relationship like a lie. And nothing hurts more than hearing that lie from someone else.
.) Compliments from both ends- we love complements, nothing brightens up our days than hearing “you look cute today” from the person we love, but don’t forget that the same goes for your guy! Even if they wont admit it, guys love to be reminded that they look good too!
.) Think about right now- don’t think about what your relationship will be like next week, next month or next year. Just think about right now and love every second of it because no one knows what life will bring, so why worry? Have fun, be your self and your relationship will naturally grow.
