A Genuine Idol: Elayne Shapiro

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Portland chapter.

Ladies, for this week’s campus celebrity, I will not be focusing on a celebrity similar to Paris Hilton, but a celebrity similar to Julia Roberts; one that is respected for her career and loved by many for her genuine demeanor. This woman’s name is Elayne Shapiro. She serves as an idol to many students interested in studying various aspects of Communication Studies. Elayne is a friend to all, always supportive and loving, along with being available to talk to students at any time. She is so experienced and intellectual when it comes to communicating with others that she is open to giving personal advice on any problems you may be having. She is a wonderful listener and truly cares to listen to whatever it is you have to say. In addition to being a wonderful counselor to students, Elayne is also a marvelous teacher and pours her all into passing on knowledge to our generation to better the future. She resides in the Buckley Center building in her office on the 2nd floor. Everyone, this woman is a blessing to us all. She is an essential celebrity to our campus every day. It is not every day that you find someone who is willing to be everyone’s hero. Ladies – a mother, a sibling, a wife, a daughter, a woman always respected, Elayne Shapiro.

Fill me out!
Hailing from eastern Washington, Julia attends the University of Portland in Oregon, as a Communication Studies major with an emphasis on Journalism. As a magazine and book junkie, Julia reads everything (and anything) she can get her hands on, especially those passionate on young adult culture and entertainment. A woman that gets stir-crazy easily, Julia has been fortunate to have traveled many summers in a row to foreign countries, including a study abroad course in Austria, Germany, and Great Britain. Since a ripe age, she has grown and cultivated her passion and dream of working for a magazine and spreading awareness as well as happiness through the tips of her fingers. Always finding time for herself, Julia can frequently be found quoting movie lines (most frequently Will Ferrell or Vince Vaughn), having a 90's dance party with her roommates, or rereading "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" for the 40th time.
