This past weekend I believe I saw it all. Spring Week(end) exceeded my expectations with everything from the performances to the endless amount of free late night breakfast and of course, the parties on parties on parties. But, what impressed me the most during this weekend was Brown’s fashion show featuring pretty much the whole student body. Everywhere I looked, I saw something I loved! It was a flawless execution of festival couture! I was completely inspired to try some of the looks I saw some of my fellow Brunonians rocking throughout our festival. Luckily for those who are quite fond of this culture, there will be tons of concerts and music festivals to attend as summer rolls around! So, here are a few trends that I loved and would love for you to try if you are digging the style!
My favorite thing about this concert look is that not only is it cute it’s functional as well! We all know that concerts can be fun but can easily be ruined by the excessive body heat from a packed crowd. But, this problem was easily combated by an array of colorful and festive crop tops!
But, it was a bit chilly on Friday night. Alas, that was no problem! I saw sweater crop tops. Some people cared less about the misty night and sleeveless and flowing tops. I saw glittered ones and flowered ones. Not to mention, I also love the empowerment that comes with wearing a crop top. It’s a daring choice for those who don’t show their stomach too often. But, at the end of the day, I saw ladies walk out with confidence and rocked the look to no end. I wore a cut out dress that showed my stomach this weekend and even though it’s a look that I don’t wear often I definitely loved the feeling of letting loose a little bit for this weekend of fun.
If you want to save some money, it’s super easy to make your own crop top.
1) Pick a shirt that you think would look good as a crop top. Maybe it’s a top you haven’t worn in a while or a shirt you wear all the time that needs a new look.
2) Preferably on a hard surface, lay the shirt flat and make sure the seams are lined up.
3) Pick the length you want your crop top cut.
4) Take a small piece of colored tape and place it wear you have chosen and put on your shirt.
5) Look in the mirror and make sure this is the length you want your crop top cut. If it is, great! If it isn’t, go back to the drawing board and adjust the length.
6) Repeat Step 2
7) Take a ruler and line it up with edge of your piece of tape. Remove the tape.
8) Take a non-permanent marker and using the ruler draw a straight line across the shirt.
9) Cut along this line.
10) Iron the end of your new crop top and sew the hemline.
11) Fearlessly rock this look to your next concert.
My second favorite look was all the lovely headwear I saw! From beaded headbands to crowns of flowers, I really loved the look of it all! Of course, you can make your own headwear. But, if you aren’t too keen on doing that, Etsy.com is a great site to browse through. All the items on their site are handmade, which is absolutely incredible! Lastly, my third favorite look was the high waisted short game! Everyone was a winner when it came to this Spring Weekend trend. I have always loved this look but for some reason this weekend made me love it even more. Luckily, high waisted shorts are really in trend this spring so you can find them in almost any store or online. But, I have to admit that some stores do overcharge for these types of shorts. So, be sure to look in more reasonable priced stores, such as Forever21, Charlotte Russe, and Wet Seal.
