Must-have Apps for USF Students

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USF chapter.

Pandora (Free)

It’s a given that music helps you focus better, work out harder and just makes you feel better. Download the free Pandora app for a music app unlike any other. Create a station based off of your favorite artist or song and Pandora will customize a radio just for you. Based on what songs you “like” and “dislike,” Pandora will match it to similar songs and after just a couple of songs you have a radio station that consistently plays music that you are into.

Zite (Free)

Part of being a student involves staying up-to-date on current events and Zite makes it easier. With the Zite app, you pick categories that you want news on and Zite updates the content you see daily. Pick from several categories or create your own and you will get personalized articles and videos. Similar to Pandora, the more you “like” and “dislike” content, the more personalized the app becomes.

Nike+ Running (Free)

It’s already hard enough to wake up at 7 a.m. for an 8 a.m. class. It is even harder to wake up that early to get in a workout. Nike+ Running allows you to schedule a run. Input the day and time you want to run and the voice of the trainer will motivate you to go. Add friends on Nike+ Running and challenge each other to see who can go for the longest run or run the most miles in a week to be at the top of the leader board. Nike+ Running will track your running as you run and give you details about the path that you ran, when you ran the fastest and slowest, how many calories you burned, and more. As you are running the trainer will be motivating you each time you break a personal record or reach one mile. This app is a must-have for collegiettes trying to get in shape.

My Net Diary ($3.99)

My Net Diary is an app that makes calculating your daily food intake fast and convenient. Exercising will keep you fit but without a proper diet you are sure to plateau. My Net Diary makes it easy to track your food with a scanner. Scan the barcode of what you are eating, enter the serving size you will have, and it will be saved to your food diary. My Net Diary will calculate the number of calories, proteins, carbs, and fats you should be eating based on your age, weight, exercise level, and goal weight. It will notify you of how many calories you have left for the day and give you a daily and weekly analysis based on your inputed meals.

Kindle (Free)

Before you skip over this app because you dislike reading–stop! Kindle is for more than pleasure reading. That ten pound textbook you have can be purchased through the Amazon Kindle store and pulled up through the Kindle app. The app has tons of features for easy note taking such as: highlighting, note writing, underlining, and tabbing to read later. Not only will the Kindle app give you an easier way to transport your textbook to class, but Kindle versions of textbooks tend to be cheaper! Sounds like a win-win to us!

iUSF (Free)

iUSF is the free app made by USF for its students. This app allows students to track the Bullrunner, get safety updates, connect with USF on social media, choose where to grab lunch, check scores to the latest games, locate buildings and get any other news USF releases. The Bullrunner function will locate you via GPS and let you know which stops are near you and which buses will be arriving and when. This app provides USF student’s with any information they may need when in a hurry.

Pocket Expense ($4.99)

Pocket Expense gives “ballin’ on a budget” a whole new meaning. It isn’t news that students tend to be pretty close to broke and need to learn how to budget. Pocket Expense helps those new at budgeting lean how and long-time budgeters keep track of their expenses. Create different categories you will spend money on (gas, groceries, bills, etc.) and create the maximum amount you will spend on each. Every time you swipe your card or spend cash be sure to input the purchase into the category and the app will let you know how much money is left in the budget for the week, month, or year depending how long your budget is for.

Clear ($1.99)

Clear is an app that makes making lists even more convenient and interactive. As a student you will have classes to attend, homework to complete, club meetings to prepare for, jobs to go to and other errands to run. Clear makes it easy to create several different lists. Instead of going to the grocery store with a piece of paper and pen, which usually gets lost at some point during the shopping trip, just pull out your phone and swipe to check-off and delete items on your list!

Countdown+++ ($0.99)

Countdown is an app that will allow you to enter the end date for any event and will keep a countdown timer on when the event has arrived. Whether you use this app to countdown the days to graduation to motivate you or to your 21st birthday–that is your business, but this app will keep you excited and motivated.
