Georgia Loftis is finishing up her junior year at Rhodes, and has a lot to show for it. Georgia is one of those girls who is constantly on the go and still manages to keep her wits about her. She makes the rest of us wonder, how does she do it? Georgia is President of Delta Delta Delta, Student Director of the Kinney Community Service Program, Student Trustee, President of Sigma Iota Rho (International Studies honor society), Rhodes Singers, Rhodes Diplomats, Peer Assistant, Senator to Rhodes Student Government, Rhodes Ambassadors, and a member of the women’s choral group, Lipstick on Your Collar. Georgia manages her busy schedule by balancing out the amount of groups she holds leadership positions in and those she is a regular member of, so she can commit more of her time to certain groups than others, depending on the responsibility that comes along with her position.

Reflecting on her last three years at Rhodes, Georgia has some advice for incoming freshman, “Develop strong relationships with Peer Assistants and faculty members as soon as you begin your time at Rhodes! They are sincerely dedicated to helping freshmen succeed. I have been involved in situations directly interacting with first-year students and one of the most disheartening things that I have found is that some first-year students will hesitate to ask important questions even though Rhodes provides many resources to students.”

This summer, Georgia is packing her bags for Rabat, Morocco, where she will be interning for the East-West Foundation, which assists Moroccan youths with English, and taking Arabic classes as well.  Moving forward, Georgia has big plans for her future. Georgia intends to use the skills she has gained through her involvement at Rhodes to “pursue an MA in International Public Policy or International Development. After graduation, I am hoping to work abroad through some sort of fellowship or program before working toward a Master’s degree.”

While Georgia is admired on campus for her incredible work ethic and dedication to organizations at Rhodes, she believes that more than academic achievement and service involvement are the key to success. Georgia reminds us, “Sometimes hanging out with friends for a few hours to take a break from studying will give you more energy and help you finish what you need to get done later. You may even be one of those people who works more effectively with a few beers in your system. Even if you have to pull a few all-nighters, your work will get done and it shouldn’t cause you too much stress. Don’t take yourself too seriously, and have fun!”

Congratulations on all of your achievements, Georgia!
