The summer is, easily, the best season of the year: constant warm weather, cute sundresses, fun vacations, great concerts, and movies that actually don’t suck.
It’s been a pretty rough year in the world of movies, and everyone is ready to see something that will knock their socks off. With this summer’s great selection, you are sure to watch at least one movie that you can deem your new favorite.
So without further ado, take a peek at the best movies coming out this summer- and tell us in the comments section below which one you’re DYING to see!
Gatsby (5/10)
Break out your flapper dresses and feather headbands, The Great Gatsby‘s movie adaptation is finally coming out. There is a lot of hype surrounding this movie, and I for one will be extremely disappointed if it does not surpass my expectations. If you haven’t read the book, get on it immediately. You’ll feel silly when everyone else is comparing the book and the movie after the fact, and you have nothing to contribute to the conversation.
The midnight release is the night before Vanderbilt’s graduation, so if you’re planning on attending, get there early. Seniority might not apply to lines at the movie theatre, but don’t be surprised if you get elbowed out of the way. Hyped-up movie adaptations can do some pretty crazy things to people.
Star Trek: Into Darkness (5/17)
I know, I know, why would a cool girl like yourself want to watch a movie made for nerds? But trust me, please- the first Star Trek is actually one of my favorite movies, and that may or may not be exclusively based on the fact that Chris Pine is the hottest man alive.
Plus, the action in the movie is actually interesting, and there’s a lot of witty humor that us intelligent Vandy girls will enjoy.
So if the sequel to Star Trek is anything like its predecessor, be sure to check this movie out. Your boyfriend/crush will happily accompany you, so it’s really a win/win.
Man of Steel (6/14)
Ugh, another movie for comic book nerds.
But nay nay, I tell you. Superhero movies are always great, except for Green Lantern, and Man of Steel looks like it will be one of the best. Henry Cavill is playing Superman and I personally think he is perfect for the role- again, so hot. Plus, Amy Adams is going to be Lois Lane, and who doesn’t love her?
Trust me on this- Man of Steel will rock your world. Give it a chance.
Despicable Me 2 (7/3)
EVERYONE loves Despicable Me. Kids love it, guys love it, and perhaps most of all, girls love it. The trailers for Despicable Me 2 have been making me sing the banana song for months, and I know I’m not the only one who finds the minions adorable. This is probably the only movie on this list that I KNOW will not disappoint. So see it. That’s really all I have to say on this one.
Planes (8/9)
The newest Disney movie, Planes, seems to look a lot like Cars. I personally didn’t love Cars, but I’m holding out hope that Planes will be much better. If you’re one of those people who sees every Disney movie that comes out (like me), then make sure to check this one out. It could be really great, and after Brave, Disney really needs to put out a great movie. So cross your fingers and prepare for a wild ride!!! <--- cheesiest pun ever
