Four Ways To Look Fabulous for Graduation

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Maryland chapter.

Now that it is officially May, there’s only one thing the class of 2013 can think about recently: graduation. Being a graduating senior myself, I know this is the time of year Charles Dickens was really referring to in A Tale of Two Cities when he wrote, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.” Besides just dreading leaving your friends, entering the real world, and searching endlessly for a job or a graduate school acceptance, there’s another added stress that many of the ladies of College Park can relate to. That is searching for the perfect graduation dress. Here are a few tips for finding that amazing dress to walk in, whether you are ready for the day you receive your diploma or if your parents are pushing you down the aisle.

1.     Simply White

One of the easiest ways to look great on graduation day is to go the traditional route and wear plain white. White has always been a color associated with graduation time, so why not keep with the custom? There are plenty of ways of doing this without looking too plain. White lace or some beading, like the picture shows here, are simple enough without being too basic. The best thing about wearing white is that it looks clean and classy, but you can also make yourself stand out with details and fabrics.

2.     Lovely Lace

Lace is something that can be worn in white like discussed above, but any type of lace dress seems to be perfect for graduation. This is because lace makes almost any dress seem both tasteful and ideal for the spring season. Besides just being great for the occasion, lace is something that is completely in style right now. You can see lace dresses in almost every store and in all of the hottest magazines. The fact that it is such a trend right now is a huge bonus because finding this type of dress in the style that fits you best should be fairly easy.

3. Feminine Full Skirt

While this category is generally pretty vague, that means you have endless possibilities to make the look personalized to you. I love this style of dress for graduation because it is refined, feminine and sexy all in one. You may not want to be sporting a body-con dress on such an occasion, so the best way to show off your figure is with the full skirt. Try putting a belt where the waist meets the full skirt for an amazing way to accentuate your body. Besides just being extremely appropriate for graduation, full skirt dresses are also another trend hitting the streets recently!

4. Fun and Floral

If you’re the type that’s more into patterns or prints, this might be the perfect option for you. Springtime is all about floral so this makes it ideal to wear at graduation time. Floral patterns come in big prints and small, so picking out a dress that fits your style best should not be difficult. I especially like how this Topshop dress incorporates white, a full skirt and floral print all in one. Something even better is that this is a very versatile dress. You can wear out for brunch, to a barbeque or even for a casual walk on a summer day so you don’t have to worry about it being a dress you’ll only wear once.

The stress that comes with the end of college is something many graduating seniors can relate to. Hopefully by learning more about some styles of graduation dresses to choose from, you can remove some of that stress and focus more on cherishing the last few weeks with your friends (or maybe studying for those finals you started to forget about). Dressing for graduation is a fairly broad category, so don’t feel like you HAVE to wear something listed above. Get shopping, ladies of College Park, because before you know it, May 19th will be here to sneak up on all of us!
