Lose The Freshman 15: 25 Popular Snacks with More Calories Than You’d Expect

Hey guys,

Happy Wednesday.  I just took my first final tonight. I studied so hard that it only took me hour and a half out of the allotted two and a half hours. It feels good to have one that I feel really good about. I have one Friday, one Saturday, and one next Thursday and then I’ll be able to go home!

As much as I love Cornell, I find it hard to stay in shape and to eat healthy here. Today at lunch I was feeling really nervous and a bit anxious about my exam that I decided I wanted to have lots and lots of chocolate. I picked up brownies, chocolate chip cookies, and some double chocolate chip cookies on top of my regular. Goodness they looked soooo delicious and I was so very excited to eat them all. Thankfully I had only eaten one of the smaller brownies when I realized how ridiculous I was being. I was going to let the stress of a 2.5 hour exam cause me to eat way too many calories. Luckily I was able to give them away to friends so I didn’t have to waste them.

The worst part was I wasn’t even sure how many calories were on my plate. It got me thinking about all my favorite foods that might a lot of calories. So I found a list (because I love lists) of the amount of calories in 25 popular snacks. You will thank me later.

1. Peanut butter and jelly sandwich with 8 ounce glass of milk — 555 calories.
2. Bagel with cream cheese and juice — 510 calories.
3. One slice of cheese pizza — 300 calories.
4. Yogurt smoothie — 390 calories.
5. Peanut butter with a banana on toast – 390 calories.
6. Chili cheese fries — 619 calories.
7. Nachos with beans — 560 calories.
8. Four ounces of trail mix with chocolate chips or M & M’s included — 582 calories.
9. Tuna salad on five crackers — 440 calories.
10. Granola bar with yogurt — 480 calories.
11. Hostess fruit pie — 480 calories.
12. Nutter butter cream patties — 160 calories.
13. Small French fries — 230 calories.
14. One good sized brownie — 450 calories. (ahhhh so many calories, no more brownies for me)
15. Kit Kat bar – 218 calories.
16. Root beer float – 270 calories.
17. Snickers chocolate bar — 280 calories.
18. Small chocolate milk shake – 240 calories.
19. Chips and salsa (15 chips) – 200 calories.
20. One medium sized hotdog with fixings — 315 calories
21. Pepperoni Pizza Hot Pocket — 350 calories.
22. Muffins — averaged to large-sized muffins can range up to 500 calories each.
23. 16 ounce soda – 150 calories.
24. Starbucks chocolate malt frappuccino with whipped cream — 610 calories. (if you go to Cornell you probably have like eight of these a day)
25. One ounce of cheese puffs – 160 calories.

Apparently chocolate chips cookies are only 80 or so calories. I should have eaten the cookie instead of the brownie. I hope this make you think twice before grabbing foods, especially since people might overeat something when studying.
