Before I accepted my statement of intent registration to the University of California, Riverside, I had a lot to think about and I am not just talking about the education. I had to the weigh the social aspect such as the city around the campus. The city of Riverside is one that holds a sense of antiquity. Taking the bus into downtown Riverside makes you seem like you have been transported to another time. I know what you are thinking; there is nothing to do in Riverside on the weekends. Well, I am here to tell you that statement has been proven wrong by yours truly. Here are few things that can be done in Riverside on the weekends.
Mission Galleria: Antique Shop
– Yes, an antique shop. This store is a multi-level building that holds knick-knacks from old school records to new school people. The store is covered from head to toe with oodles and oodles of stuff. Some maybe questionable, but it is interesting to see what life was like in a different time. While walking through the multitude of aisles, you feel as though you are being transported to different era with every twist and turn.
UCR Barbara and Art Culver Center of the Arts
– This UCR run art galleria, which is free for UCR students, displays art done by not just UCR students but famous artists as well. There is also the photography museum that includes candid photos and retro cameras. It is a great place to go on Saturdays when you are feeling a little artsy.
Phood on Main
– All this site seeing can make a person hungry, so a great place to dine is at the Phood on Main Eatery, “a hip and creative eaterie.” The price is reasonable and the food is delicious. The staff is very friendly and never faults in making sure that all your dining needs are met. The best part of the culinary experience is eating one of the best cheesy bread known to man!
There are many more places in downtown that are worth visiting. Downtown Riverside is a marvelous wonder with its rustic buildings, authentic murals, and lively people that it makes me glad to be going to this school.
