Wait, Dillo Day is this Saturday? The end of spring quarter snuck up quickly, so no one blames you for being unprepared.  If you’re still unsure of what outfit to sport at Northwestern’s social event of the year, you’re not alone. We’ve got you covered with tips and inspiration.

High-waisted shorts are a music festival staple. Whether you go simple with a pair of plain denim shorts or something a little more festive, these shorts keep you cool and give you freedom to move around. If your style is typically feminine, lace or crocheted accents lend girly touches to an otherwise edgy style.

A simple cropped tee or tank will keep your outfit easy, but don’t be afraid to show your personality too. If you favor girly clothing, pair a lace cami with simple shorts. Fringe, another festival favorite, automatically adds edge and texture to your ensemble. If you still can’t make a decision, an American flag printed top is a solid fallback.

Unfortunately, forecasts predict rain throughout the day. But that doesn’t mean you have to cover up your outfit with a boring raincoat. A bright colored jacket like this yellow one from Urban Outfitters will set you apart from the crowds of ladies in black.

Finally, accessories. It’s way too easy to lose belongings when you’re running around in a crowd of people. A small cross-body bag is handy but a fanny pack is even better. Not only are they functional, but they can add dimension and substance to your outfit, but they’re beyond practical. A typical fanny pack can keep your WildCARD, a phone, lip balm and sunscreen. Plus, it’s the only time fanny packs are socially acceptable, so why not?

Bottom line: When in doubt, go simple. Arguably the most anticipated day at Northwestern, Dillo Day has a habit of destroying nice things. That means comfortable clothing that you won’t mind dirtying up. This probably isn’t the time to break out your Alexander McQueen sunglasses. Same goes for heels and wedges, as tempting as they may be. So, now that your outfit is planned, you can go back to plotting how you’ll manage front row access to Smash Mouth. Happy Dillo Day!
