Aaron Deng ’16

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Chicago chapter.

Name: Aaron Deng (aka the nicest guy on campus)

Year: 1st

Major: Public Policy / Political Science

Hometown: Hacienda Heights, (Southern) CA

Campus Activities: UChicago Mock Trial, PhiNix Dance Crew, Maroon Capital, Volunteering in the South Side

Why do you love dancing?: I’ve always felt dance is the visual embodiment of music. And also, girls love it when you can move on the dance floor.

Something on your bucket list: Backpacking across Europe starting from the English countrysides and through the continent to the Italian beaches.
Celebrity Crush: Joseph Gordon-Levitt. As a man, sophistication and class are all you really need. And maybe the ability to look good in a tux.

Favorite Quote: “Have the serenity to accept the things you can’t change; the courage to change the things you can; and the wisdom to know the difference.” – Reinhold Niebuhr

Every guy needs these three things in his closet: A sweet suit and tie set, an acoustic guitar, and a poster of the Chicago skyline.

Ideal Date: We’d have a classy dinner on the top floor of Hancock with the city lights flickering below. Or a picnic on the top of the Mansueto library.

Most romantic place on campus: The Reg. Nothing’s hotter than watching people cram silently at 3 am.

What Aaron’s friends say about him:

“Aaron is a man of much swagger and many friends. He likes making people happy. He likes hugs. He likes sunsets and long walks on the beach. He’s just a good person.”

“Aaron is a guy with a kind soul (some would say the kindest soul). He can be silly and tease his friends, but there is no doubt that he cares deeply and fiercely about them and that he will always be there for them.”

She also acts as Editor-In-Chief of Diskord, an online op-ed publication based on campus, and as an Arts and Culture Co-Editor for the university's new Undergraduate Political Review. When she's not busy researching, writing, and editing articles, Annie can be found pounding out jazz choreography in a dance room, furiously cheering on the Vancouver Canucks, or around town on the lookout for new places, people, and things. This year, Annie is back in DC interning with Voice of America once again!
