The 5 Best Looks From the 2013 Video Music Awards

As the last red carpet extravaganza until school starts, the Video Music Awards are notorious for jaw-dropping musical numbers and daring fashion statements. Though every award show has its share of worst dressed nominees, this year’s event boasted looks that were better than Miley Cyrus’s questionable performance. Like, much better. Check out our five favorite looks from the 2013 VMAs.

1. Selena Gomez in Atelier Versace

The style siren turned heads in this sexy couture ensemble. Since the dress is such a showstopper, the “Come and Get It” singer smartly tones it down with a sleek blow out and understated glam makeup. Eat your heart out, Justin.

2. Lady Gaga in Prabal Gurung

Who is Lady Gaga without her zany outfits? Actually, she’s quite fabulous. The pop sensation manages to look polished while still excuding that typical Gaga je ne sais quoi. One of her best looks yet? We think so!

3. Ciara in Givenchy

This look is automatic, supersonic, hypnotic–funky fresh. Did you get that throwback?  No? Moving on. This Givenchy number is both glamorous and sexy, which is the true formula for an amazing VMA outfit. The beachy waves and summer-approved makeup are the perfecty finishing touches.

4. Joan Smalls in Viktor + Rolf

Channeling her inner Greek goddess, the model perfectly blends nice and naughty. The boxy silhouette is femine, cozy, and perfect for the summer; however, those tall gladiator heels prove Smalls is a force to be reckoned with.

5. Naya Rivera in Vintage Paco Rabanne

Now that is a dress. The Glee star wows in this vintage black frock with scandalous cut-outs. Rivera plays off the dress’s sex appeal with smooth locks and a smokey eye. Even though this dress is super seductive, Rivera still looks classy. Brava!
