“It’s so easy to stay skinny in college!”
                                     -No one. Ever.

                                                                                                                                                      *Photo from leanitup.com

Between buffet-style dining options, social eating, and late-night study snacking, how in the world is a collegiette supposed to stay fit? Each of us has that one person in the back of our mind – the one who went to college and got chubbier in every subsequent Facebook profile picture. Lets face it, you don’t want to become that girl.

The fit culture at Wake is fantastic motivation for fighting off the infamous freshman fifteen and every following grade struggle. What’s next? The “sophomore seventeen?” The “jumbo size junior?” The healthy girls in LuLuLemon leggings and Athleta headbands inspire me to go to the gym – partly because I want to put on cute workout attire – but mostly because I’m reminded of how essential exercise is. Despite knowing this, working out is the last thing I want to do after a day of making mistakes on quizzes and sitting through never-ending classes. #WorkForestProblems.

Fear not, because I am going to give you the ultimate secret to getting both your mind and body into workout mode – a killer music playlist!

Blogger Gretchen Reynolds reported in her article “Phys Ed: Does Music Make You Exercise Harder?” as seen in The New York Times, “It’s not simply that music motivates you and you run faster. It may be that, instead, your body first responds to the beat, even before your mind joins in; your heart rate and breathing increase and the resulting biochemical reactions join with the music to exhilarate and motivate you to move even faster.”

Pretty cool, right? Your body wants in on the action; so here’s the perfect mix of techno, pop, rap, and alternative to get you busting a move during your workout.

Warm Up:

  1. “Teenage Crime (Radio Edit),” Adrian Lux
We both know you’d rather be watching Netflix but here’s a catchy song to get you on that workout flow.
  1. “Atmosphere (Radio Edit),” Kaskade
First release of the new album! Starts out slow… be sure to pick up the pace when the song does.
  1. “If I Lose Myself (Remix),” Alesso vs. OneRepublic
Alesso and OneRepublic? Match-made in House heaven.

Crank Up The Speed:

  1. “All the Things She Said (Monolith Remix),” T.A.T.U
Nothing like a new remix to bring back a classic! You should be sweating to this one.
  1. “My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark,” Fall Out Boy
    The ultimate “kick-butt” song.
  1. “Hangover (Hardwell Remix),” Taio Cruz
Here’s one for those amazing girls who work out… even with a hangover.
  1. “Berzerk,” Enimem
The King is back. First release of his new album. Go berzerk.
  1. “I Could Be The One,” Avicii vs. Nikki Romero
You Could Be The One To Look That Great ;)
  1. “A Love Like War,” All Time Low
A little alternative to mix things up. First release of the album.
  1. “Stay the Night,” Zedd feat. Hayley Williams
Paramore’s Hayley Williams and Zedd team up for this new tune. It’s quite catchy.
  1. “All Night,” Icona Pop
Newest single from Icona Pop. Gotta say, I love it.
  1. “Wake Me Up,” Avicii
This song will never get old…
  1. “Animals (Radio Edit),” Martin Garrix
Good luck trying not to rave in the middle of the gym when the beat drops.
  1. “Supersoaker,” Kings of Leon
    Newest song off the album!
  1. “We’re All No One (Hook N Sling Remix),” Nervo
“Nervo” is a pair of Australian twins that know how to drop a sick beat. Check them out!
  1. “Applause,” Lady Gaga
New Gaga. Enough said. And just think of the applause you’re going to get with that new bod, girl.
  1. “City of Dreams (Radio Edit),” Dirty South and Alesso
Another great tune from Alesso. The man killed it this summer.

Cool Down:

Even if you’re tired, this song will put you in a good mood. Guaranteed.
  1. “Roar,” Katy Perry
    Ultimate girl power tune.
