True Life: I love TV.

Nothing excites me more than the arrival of the season premieres of all the fall shows, a time where I am reunited with my favorite characters and whisked away into their worlds yet again. With the arrival of these fall premieres, I have decided to write a weekly column where I suggest some of my favorite shows to watch.

This week’s show? The Mindy Project!

Season Two of the Mindy Project airs on Tuesday nights on Fox. It follows the life of Dr. Mindy Lahiri, a young OB/GYN, as she tries to balance her professional and personal life.

Five reasons to Watch The Mindy Project

1.      Mindy

The character of Dr. Mindy Lahiri, played by The Office alum Mindy Kaling, is an overly-emotional and extremely hysterical singleton who tries to balance her hectic work schedule with her chaotic personal life. The relationships that she develops with her peers and her love interests will leave you laughing.

2.      The Doctors

Working along with Mindy at the office are Mindy’s (quite attractive) coworkers Drs. Danny Castellano and Jeremy Reed. Danny, played by Chris Messina, serves as the office’s resident pessimist, a bitter divorcee whose use of sarcasm doesn’t hide the fact that he’s actually a bit of a softie. Jeremy, played by British-bred Ed Weeks, is the office’s resident lothario whose commentary on America’s culture is sure to bring a smile to your face. Don’t forget Nurse Morgan Tookers (MadTV’s Ike Barinholtz), the ex-convict who is hired on as a nurse in the practice – he alone provides many of the show’s one-liners.

3.      Mindy’s Boyfriends

Throughout the series, Mindy dates a series of different men and the result is often hysterical. Whether she dates the high-flying sports lawyer (with a major secret) Josh, the midwife (and enemy of the practice) Brendan Deslaurier, or Pastor Casey, the Christian minister she meets on the subway, Mindy’s love life is definitely filled with comical ups-and-downs.

4.      The Guest Stars

The Mindy Project has a very star-studded guest cast. Former SNL favorites such as Bill Hader, Ed Helms, and Seth Meyers (Seth’s brother Josh also appears on the show as a prostitute!) make several appearances on the show as Mindy’s love interests. Workaholics star Anders Holm plays a recurring role as Pastor Casey, The Office alum B.J. Novak stars as a potential love interest and movie star Seth Rogen plays a role as Mindy’s childhood sweetheart. If that’s not enough, the Season Two premiere shows James Franco as a hot new doctor in the practice (James Franco playing a doctor? Sign me up for an appointment!)

5.      The Writing

The writing on this show is hysterical! Witty and sharp, the show has received very positive reviews and it’s well deserved – as it should, with both Kaling and Novak lending a hand to the producing and writing aspects of the series. If you’re a fan of the writing on The Office then definitely try this show!
