What They Wore: 2013 Emmy Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Stonehill chapter.

Although the red carpet was rolled out in L.A. recently for the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards, but much of the fashion was of the colorless variety.

From pale and light pink hues, to light blue and a washed-out grey, the long list of celebrity women is extensive and impressive that they all somehow got the same memo. Celebs who were part of the color washout were, Rose Byrne, Claire Danes Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Padma Lakshmi, Taylor Schilling, Zooey Dechanel, Ariel Winter Jewel, Emily Dechanel, Kate Mara, Cobie Smulders, Malin Ackerman, and Julie Bowen.

Although altogether somewhat colorless and pale, the dress specifically work by Kerry Washington is particularly notable, as she donned a dreamy pale pink floral Marchesa gown from the 2014 collection. A definite showstopper, and Washington proved that you don’t need a neon dress to stand out in that crowd.

While there were exceptions to this color rule such as Tina Fey who wore a beautiful custom-made Narciso Rodriguez royal blue gown that made her and her curves emulate a brunette Marilyn Monroe!

Matching Fey’s blue gown theme, Allison Williams rocked an A-line strapless Ralph Lauren gown. But let’s just be real, when does this actress of Girls fame not look absolutely fabulous?

Speaking of the well-known show, Girls, writer and star Lena Dunham was one of the only stars that actually took a fashion risk last night, and regardless if she really pulled it off, it was definitely memorable and she exuded the confidence necessary to wear the Prada frock down the carpet.

All and all, the Emmy fashions showed up in spades, and are a great way to have a precursor to the inevitable awards show season as it is only a few months away!
