Major: Family and Child Studies

Hometown: River Vale, NJ

Collegiates, meet Madeline Della Pesca! Madeline also goes by Maddy. Maddy is a Family Child Studies major at Montclair State University. Maddy knew that she wanted to be a teacher for as long as she could remember, “I chose this [major] because I plan on becoming an elementary school teacher and I felt that this major would give me the most information I would need to learn about the children I will be teaching”. Montclair State University has so much to offer with the variety of majors and programs. When asked why she chose to study at Montclair State University, Maddy told HC Montclair, “I chose this school because of the amazing five year teaching program they have. This is a very prestigious school for teaching and I knew that I would prepare me for my career. It’s amazing that I will graduate in four years as a certified elementary school teacher and then get my masters in special education in just one year”.

Maddy just got out of a long-term relationship and is currently single and is enjoying her sophomore year. HC Montclair asked Maddy to describe a perfect date and she said, “The perfect date to me would be something relaxed. A nice dinner or something like that is what I like. It’s important to feel comfortable and relaxed on a date, that way you can really be yourself”.  Maddy knows that it takes a lot of work to be in a relationship and she has some advice for her peers, “I believe the most important thing in a relationship is trust. I think that you shouldn’t even start a relationship with someone until you can trust them first. It is also extremely important to be yourself in any relationship you may be in. If you aren’t being true to you, then how can you expect that from your partner in return”? Well said, Maddy!

Maddy has many goals and she also has a ten year plan. Maddy says, “In ten years I hope to be married and have a full time teaching job. I hope to establish my career and meeting all of my goals I have set for myself. I will accomplish my ten year goal by continuing with my schooling and making myself as prepared as possible for the real world. I know that with the job that I want, I will be learning something new about my profession every day, and that is what I am most excited for”. Maddy has some high goals set for herself, but we are sure that she can reach them! Good luck, Maddy!
