Relationships are a huge part of anybody’s life, as is university, and some choose not to let the two mix and prefer not to be tied down during 3 of the busiest years of your life.

Having said that, who knows who you’ll meet in a seminar, in your halls or on the opposing sports team? Whose to say you won’t meet the love of your life in Arena? Being ‘Facebook official’ doesn’t mean settling down or missing out; there are plenty of reasons to love being in a relationship while at university, and here are just a few!

  • Exeter is a relatively small city, and the majority of all off-campus students live in the same single mile radius surrounding Vic Street, so without sounding too lazy… It’s not hard to make the effort if you want to see each other, as chances are you’re never too far away!
  • ‘Date Night’ is a great excuse to get to know all the restaurants and bars in Exeter, not just the clubs. Why not try out the new Ruby Burgers or Strada on the High Street, or take a romantic stroll along the quay to share a pizza at The Waterfront.
  • While he’ll hoover the contents your fridge and finish all your meals, this may not necessarily be such a bad thing! In the case of drunken decisions involving nightly cheesy chips or too many timepiece burgers, sometimes his views on sharing food may keep you fitting into your favorite little black dress. It’s exhilarating knowing you’re ending the night at home with the person you want to wake up to, and you stand a good chance of being cooked breakfast in the morning (well, hopefuly).
  • It instantly doubles your friendship circle; chances are if you get along with him so well, you’ll like his mates! Getting to know more people also definitely means more parties… Even more friendly faces on campus are always a bonus.
  • And finally lets face it, who doesn’t love a little affection? My boyfriend learnt very quickly that the easiest way to my heart is through cuddles. Hugs and physical contact have been proven to release our natural ‘feel-good hormones’ in the brain, including Dopamine and Oxytocin. So guys, snuggle up!
