Okay so here’s the scoop. You either have to live under a rock, be unaware of the existence of the freshmen on campus, or have your head in the clouds if you don’t know who Hollie Davis is. Yeah, she was the one blowing up your Facebook notifications over the summer if you were part of the Denison 2017 Facebook page. She’s the one who walks around the Shorney dorms in a silk bathrobe, and also, she’s the one with a knack for strutting her stuff around campus in her designer dresses and deep red lipstick.
Hollie is a freshman at Denison from Chicago and she’s quite the character—making her this week’s celebrity! Hollie is a part of the Denison Feminists and Students For Choice. Thinking of herself as a cultural artist, her aim and focus is to reinvent the idea of beauty through recreating in her paintings the stereotypical model-type women like Audrey Hepburn and making her colored. “I’m an addict to color, all types of it!” says Hollie. “Color, color, color! Most artists try to stay away from it but for me, it’s the main deal.” Hollie even admits that if she was stranded on an island, the three things she would take with her are “books, her sketchbook, and her Prismacolor markers”… not that’s devotion.
As a poli-sci and visual arts major, she has very strong opinions about the world and what needs to change. One of Hollie’s biggest plans for the future is opening an art gallery where all artists that are represented are activists. She wants themes like women’s rights and child poverty to be felt and understood by the world. In addition, Hollie would like to create a college scholarship fund specifically for students wanting to become humanitarians or activists. In other words, according to Hollie, “people who want to give back.”
“I’m the fashionista socialite on campus,” laughs Hollie, “I can’t help but get along with everybody.” On a normal day, Hollie likes to go out and simply meet and have conversations with people. “Especially men… it’s my favorite thing to do!” Hollie’s independence beams through her skin and through every thing she does. Her favorite quote is “I’m not a princess, I don’t need saving. I’m a queen, I got this shit handled.” She even explains (while looking at herself in the mirror and crying out, “damn! I’m fine!”) that her favorite accessory in the world is confidence because with it, “anything can happen”. Keep it up Hollie, we believe in you!
