With the revival of high-waisted shorts, overalls and crop-tops I couldn’t help but longingly reminisce on the other trends I’d love to dust off and rock again. Here are 8 trends I wish would come back. What are yours?

Fanny Packs

Classic, colorful 80’s fanny packs. The practicality and convenience of a good fanny pack is unparalleled. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been tempted to chuck my purse into a fiery pit after it rubbing my shoulder raw from a long day at a music festival or concert. They’re usually the perfect size for just what you need and they just sit there and don’t bother you all day. You wouldn’t have to go digging through a huge bag to find that tiny Chapstick, it’s easily accesible and right there chillin’ in its own perfect little compartment. Genius.

Hair Scrunchies

Just last week I snapped approximately 8 hair ties while trying to put my hair in a ponytail. If you’ve got a wild mane, like I do, I’m sure you miss how scrunchies keep things in check. Sweet wrist accessory AND hair tamer. They’re soft and gentle and cuddly to your locks. Not to mention, they don’t leave a crease in your hair should you choose to let your hair down after a scrunchie sesh. However, should scrunchies come back, I would only opt for the cotton ones. The velour ones have got to stay where ever they came from.

Red Lipstick all day err’ day

I often dream of the days when wearing red lipstick all the time was socially acceptable and universally celebrated. While red lipstick is certainly still prominent, I want it back with a vengeance. Like the ladies of the 50’s rocking the crimson lips just going grocery shopping or to the bank! Classic. In the wise words of Diane Keaton, “Just have fun. Smile. And keep putting on lipstick”. Diane had it right, collegiettes.

Grunge Rocker Look

Baggy flannels, t-shirts and dark colors are comfortable and all that is right with the clothing world. Not brushing your hair saves you so much pain and misery. Layers are lovely. Combat boots and converse are the best dang footwear out there. A lot of times when I get dressed I think, “Wow, I look like a Nirvana-era Dave Grohl.” The angst and sense of power that comes along with looking slightly homeless and rocking the 90’s grunge rocker look? Free gift with purchase.

Tall socks

I’m not asking for thigh highs to be strutted around anymore, I’m just looking for a little lee-way here. These no-show socks are really doing a number on my dainty ankles. So many blisters! So much bare-heel-on-shoe rubbage! Not to mention how the tiny socks of today always end up sliding further and further down your foot until you have to stop and take your shoe off to tug your sock back up again. Ankle socks would eliminate all of these woes!

One-piece swimwear

I volunteer at a camp over summer and females on staff are required to wear one-piece swimsuits. Such a blessing in disguise! I got to rock the cutest ruffley vintage one-piece swimsuit! While the tan-lines it leaves behind are a little on the annoying side, it makes up for it with the classic look of the suit. It covers the belly, creates curves and flatters the crap out of you! I say we bring these puppies back to the mainstream beach scene.

Umbros

These are today’s popular “Norts” parent from the 80’s-90’s. They are so much more exciting then your everyday athletic shorts. Always colorful, always airy, always an option for a matching neon windbreaker jacket. And that swishy sound they make? It’s like athletic angels singing!

Jean Jackets

The popular chambray shirt is definitely the gateway drug to the jean jacket. While these are making a gradual come back, I think we should all take notice of the greatness of a jean jacket when worn appropriately. An accessory that not only personalizes your outfit but allows you to personalize it. I have a bedazzler and band patches just waiting in the wings for the jean jacket’s full blown revival.
