Kate Spade will always be a Devil at heart.

Yes, we are all well aware of Mrs. Spade’s bright and modern-edge designer bags and even the fact that her current net worth is well over $150 million (as told by The Richest).

But perhaps you didn’t know that Spade was once a Sun Devil herself.

That’s right, Kate Spade is a fellow ASU Alumni who now happens to be one of the most bag-obsess-worthy American designers on the market!

Kate Brosnahan graduated ASU as a Journalism Major (wait, what?) in 1985 while in between jobs at a motorcycle bar (I told you she was a Sun Devil).

During her time at ASU, Kate also met her future husband, Andy Spade, who just so happens to be the brother of actor and comedian, David Spade.

After graduating at ASU, Kate worked as the Accessories Editor at Mademoiselle before deciding to take on her own accessories line. In 1993, Kate Spade and her ASU hubby Andy Spade, officially created the first line of “Kate Spade Handbags.” The line proved to be both successful and creative from the start, and by 1996 Kate Spade had her first store in New York City.

Kate Spade and the rest of her design pack sold the brand to Neiman Marcus in 1999. Kate Spade was later bought by Liz Claiborne Inc. (now Fifth & Pacific Inc.) in 2006 and then sold once again to current owners, Craig Leavitt, CEO, and Deborah Lloyd as president and creative director in 2008. (Forbes)

As the Kate Spade Website boasts: “All the while, we’ve never lost sight of who we are: our spirited approach, commitment to curiosity and passion for sharing our colorful world still shapes all that is Kate Spade New York.”

It’s a beautiful thing.

Flash forward to now. Kate Spade’s name is known across the lands with her vast variety of handbags, clothes, jewelry, shoes, stationery, eyewear, baby, fragrance, tabletop, bedding and gifts.

And did I mention that David Spade is her brother-in-law?

Here’s to the most fashionable and entertaining family get-togethers possible!
