Best:

Rose Byrne

Rose Byrne went minimalistic, with a plain, pale pink sheath dress by Calvin Klein. The almost nude color compliments her skin tone and new blonde locks, while the simple silhouette highlights the shape of her body. A tiny strip of skin at her midriff provides enough sex appeal to offset the high neckline, and keep her from looking too provocative.

Kerry Washington

Actress Kerry Washington, deemed world’s best-dressed woman by People magazine, turned heads in an ethereal Marchesa gown. The cream and white dress was perfect from her caramel complexion, and was accented with gold lace and hundreds of flower appliques. The delicate ensemble was right on-trend: many actresses sported ethereal gowns this year, although none did it quite like Washington.

Sofia Vergara

Modern Family actress highlighted her bombshell curves in this red, trumpet-style Vera Wang gown. The gown accented her body in all the right places, and gave just the right amount of sex appeal. She accessorized the dress with emerald green, tiered earrings, which added to the opulence of the look without being overpowering.

Elisabeth Moss

Mad Men’s Elisabeth Moss went Old Hollywood Glam with a sophisticated Andrew Gn. The black-and-white contrast is a popular look this year, both on the runways and the red carpets, and Elisabeth Moss certainly pulls it off. She makes it her own by complimenting it with vintage Neil Lane jewelry, and adds a pop of color with a bright red lip and nails.

Maria Menounos

Maria Menounos chose a strapless, navy Zac Posen gown for the red carpet. The slinky, almost liquid quality of the dress highlighted her body perfectly, showing off her curves and tiny waist. Menuounos paired the dress with a Lorraine Schwartz bib necklace, which complimented the dress’ sweetheart neckline.

Worst:

Connie Britton

Unfortunately, Nashville star Connie Britton’s look was a miss this year. The velvet Naeem Kahn dress did nothing for her figure due to the distracting gold applique, and overall it looked more like drapes than a red carpet worthy dress. Perhaps it belongs hanging on the windows of Britton’s Victorian house in American Horror Story Season 1.

Lena Dunham

This Girls star sported a teal Prada ball-gown, dotted with coral roses. The dress did Dunham no favors, with just far too much material – especially with such bold of a print and color choice. Accenting the dress with bright turquoise eye shadow was also a poor choice on Dunham’s part, unnecessarily matchy and a little too 80’s.

Zosia Mamet

Actress Zosia Mamet wore a watercolor print Honor gown. Despite the gorgeous print, the whole look is a bit bizarre; the strange yoke looks somewhat like a bib, while the leather pseudo-bustier top distorted her bust in a very unflattering way. Instead of highlighting her décolletage, the top of the dress makes her look misshapen.

Anna Faris

Anna Faris chose a lemon yellow Monique Lhuillier dress for the red carpet. The dress was draped beautifully and accented her tiny waist, but the color is what bumped this actress to the worst dressed list. Unfortunately for her, the bright yellow just wasn’t the right choice with her particular complexion; it made her skin look sallow, and drew all the attention away from her gorgeous face and new hair-do.

Aubrey Plaza

The Parks and Recreation star hit the red carpet in a black-lace Mario Schwab dress that probably was better suited for a funeral of sorts. The turtleneck and long sleeves, both dotted with jewels, looked oddly witchy (perhaps Plaza is sending a message to the producers of American Horror Story: Coven?) and the shape was in no way flattering to her figure.
