If you haven’t heard of DJ Ego, you’re definitely missing out. His music has the ability to make Auburn students dance till they drop with his mixes of dubstep, hip hop and house music. Lucky for you, he’s performing at College Fashion Week Auburn this Friday, October 11th! I had the chance to talk with Zaq Scott about his career as DJ Ego before his big performance at CFW (and, in the meantime, you can check out his mixes on SoundCloud).
Major/Year: Senior in Materials Engineering
Â
Where are you from? Gainesville, FL
How did you get into mixing? I got into mixing because I’ve always enjoyed a wide variety of music and I was always a source of new music for my friends.
Â
Where do you usually play? I have played at 1716, En Fuego, Bourbon Street, and Quixotes in Auburn. I also travel around doing events in South Carolina and Florida.
Â
What do you hope to do with your music during college? My hope with my DJ-ing in college is just to get people to listen to new and different types of music. A lot of the time I see people listening to the same ten popular songs on repeat and that kills me. There is such variety in the music being produced today and I just want people to get a chance to hear to it.
Â
What artists inspire you the most? There are a lot of artists that I am a huge fan of, but I would have to say Bob Marley is the most inspiring. The ability he had to take reggae and make it known worldwide, and also the emotion he put into every performance, are really inspirational.
Â
What is your favorite show that you have been to or performed at? My favorite show that I have performed was actually not too long ago, at Wofford College ago for a paint party. It was a campus-wide event during the day and it ended up being packed with about 1000 people all wearing costumes. That was the most energy I have had from a crowd.
What’s your favorite song currently? My favorite song currently is “Giving it All” by Bondax. It has a certain feel good vibe that keeps it on repeat for me.
Â
Do you have a favorite mix that you’ve created? I have several mixes I did a couple years ago on my SoundCloud, but the most recent and my favorite one I have made is a mash-up that included “Lean Wit it, Rock Wit It” called Leanin’ Lullaby.
Â
What are your goals with music & DJ-ing after college? My goal is to keep sharing good music and good vibes to people.
