Today marks the final day of Hampton University’s Homecoming week. Homecoming week is similar to Mardi Gras for Hamptonians. The week is all about networking with alumni, having a great time, and reliving memories that were created over the years. Although the weather was a damper, (it rain everyday during this week!), it did not stop the positive environment. Below is a list of events that occurred during the week and a recap of each event.

Sunday

Homecoming week kicked off with a bonfire held in convocation parking lot. This was a renewed tradition that the Student Government Association brought back to the student body. Students enjoyed socializing around a huge bonfire while music played.

Monday

On Monday, Bayfest was the event of the day. This event replaced Hampton Idol but still allowed student artists and groups to perform their music. Although the location for Bayfest moved a few times because of the monsoon weather, students still came out to Convocation to hear and support their fellow peers.

Tuesday

Hampton University held its’ “Vogue Fantasy” homecoming fashion show. This event was held in the student center ballroom. Tons of students, faculty, and alumni came to see the fashions on the runway. The music was upbeat and the crowd was very involved with the show. An official fashion show after party was held in the student center atrium.

Wednesday

The main event for Wednesday was Coronation. The new Miss Hampton, Shayma Sulaiman, was officially coronated. Other misters and misses from different organizations and clubs were inducted and displayed for the student body.

Thursday

The annual homecoming concert featured Migos and Rich Homie Quan this year. Students attended the concert and sung along with the artists as they put on a show.

Friday

Hampton alumni and students always look forward to the “Homecoming Bazaar” every homecoming Friday. Food vendors, pop up shops and crowds of people fill the inside and outside of the student center. Old classmates reunite and current students enjoy “12-5” in the student center.

Homecoming is a fun packed week for students and alumni. This one week out of the year is look forward towards every year. They week is not over yet! Today is the homecoming parade and the our football game against North Carolina A&T. Later on tonight everyone will be attending one of the many cabarets hosted by alumni and students. Hamptonians definitely know how to party.
