Campus Celebrity: Patrice Clayton

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at IUP chapter.

When walking around campus, there’s no way you can miss this week’s Campus Celebrity. You will see her in the cutest outfits, sporting the biggest smile on her face, but what makes Patrice Clayton our Campus Celebrity is that she has more than mere beauty.

Patrice is awesome and here’s why:

Patrice is a 21 year old, senior journalism major from Blairsville, PA with a passion for her career.

“I chose Journalism because I’ve always loved to write, even as a kid,” Patrice said. “It comes naturally to me!”

Patrice said she has enjoyed her time at IUP and will continue to do so. Her favorite thing about her college career is the people she has met along her journey.

“I’ve learned so much about people while being here and I’ve made some of my best friends here, too,” Patrice said. “College has shown me there are so many different types of people from so many places and I’ve really enjoyed meeting people who are different from myself.”

During the summer, it wasn’t all laying pool side and soaking up the sun for Patrice. No, this girl was hard at work. Patrice interned at Saboroma, a small fashion design company in New York City, NY. She worked as the company’s social media manager, showroom manager, and even assisted with the company’s public relations.

“This was such an amazing experience for me, considering I love fashion, PR, and of course, New York City,” Patrice said. “I chose to intern there because it was a perfect fit for me and gave me the experience I will need for what I want to do after graduation. “

After graduation in May 2014, Patrice plans to move to NYC or another major city to pursue a career in PR and journalism.

When Patrice is not hard at work becoming a great journalist, she enjoys reading, spending time with my family, shopping, hanging out with friends, and trying new things!

“I also enjoy traveling and learning about other cultures,” Patrice said.

Although this campus celebrity is destined for great things, even now, she is remembering her roots and the people who have made her who she is.

“The most influential person in my life is my mom,” Patrice said. ” She is always there for me and teaches me to be kind, strong, ambitious, loving and most importantly to always be myself. She is my best friend and shaped me into who I am today. I can’t thank her enough.”

Patrice is gearing up to ship out of IUP for good, but she leaves current students with a bit of advice:

“My advice for IUP students is to work hard and make your family proud, but don’t forget to have fun and enjoy yourself every chance you get!”
