Halloween is right around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than by increasing your sugar intake and indulging on self-made treats?  Here are five quick and easy (and virtually no-bake) recipes to try out right inside your college dorm!

  1. “Witches Stew” – Halloween Trail Mix

Ingredients: 1 jar honey roasted peanuts

                          1 bag candy corn

1 bag of fall-colored M&M’s (They come in peanut butter and pumpkin spice flavors, too!)

                          2 cups raisins

Mix all the ingredients together in a large bowl and enjoy!

2.  Donut Hole Cake Pops

     Ingredients: Pre-made donut holes

     Vanilla or chocolate icing

     Sucker sticks/popsicle sticks/toothpicks

     Halloween or autumn-colored sprinkles

Since all of the ingredients can be store bought, the steps are very simple. Remove lid and foil wrap from canned icing.  Microwave icing for 20 seconds and stir.  Put stick inside of one donut hole and dip into the icing until covered.  Add sprinkles on top of the donut hole while the icing is still wet.  Sit your cake pops out to harden, or stick them into the fridge to speed up the process and enjoy!

3. Owl S’mores

Ingredients:  graham crackers

                     marshmallows

                    chocolate chips

                   yellow candy melts

                   candy corn

Cut one marshmallow in half and place both pieces on a large graham cracker (2 stuck together).

Put a candy melt on top of the marshmallows.

Heat in the microwave for about 2-5 seconds, just enough to make the marshmallows puff up, but not get too hot. (Time depends on your microwave – make sure to do a few test runs.)

Take out of microwave and add a chocolate chip on the yellow candy melt and the candy corn beak while the marshmallows and candy are still warm. Everything should stick together nicely.

Let cool and serve!

4.  No Bake Halloween Cookies

Ghosts:
1 package of Nutter Butter Cookies
1 bag of white chocolate chips or white candy melts
mini chocolate chips

Melt the chocolate according to package directions.  I used candy melts from the craft store and melted them using the microwave for 1 minute and then 20 second intervals, stirring after each one.

Dip the Nutter Butters in the white chocolate.  Be sure to shake of excess by tapping the cookie on the side of the bowl and scraping the bottom too.

Lay on a cookie sheet lined with a sheet of wax paper.  Apply 2 mini chocolate chips for the eyes while the chocolate is still wet.  Allow to dry and set.

Witch Hats:
1 package of Fudge Stripe cookies
1 package of hershey kisses
1 tube of orange frosting

Turn the fudge stripe cookie upside down.  Take an unwrapped kiss and apply a dap of frosting.  Attach to to the cookie.  Take your orange frosting and pipe a ribbon around the kiss.  Enjoy!!

5.  Easy Caramel Apples

Ingredients:  (14 oz.) pkg. caramel candies, unwrapped

                      2 tablespoons water

                      5 to 6 medium apples

5 to 6 popsicle or craft sticks

chopped nuts, cookies, or candies (if desired)

Wash apples, dry thoroughly, remove stems, insert sticks in stem end, and refrigerate. Put caramel candies in medium microwave-safe bowl, add water, microwave on high for approx. 3 minutes until melted. Stop at 1 minute intervals to stir. Place each apple into bowl of melted caramel, swirl around until coated, using a spoon to cover apple. Remove apple from caramel and let excess drip off, scraping excess from bottom with spoon. If desired, roll coated apple in chopped nuts, cookies, or candies. Press in with hands to help them set in the caramel. Place on greased waxed paper or aluminum foil and return to fridge to chill and set. If desired, drizzle chilled apples with melted chocolate. Return to fridge. Or, wrap each caramel apple in an individual bag, tie it, and store at room temperature. They will keep for several days.
