While the weather has been pretty decent this fall so far, it will get colder. With a shift to colder temperatures, comes the need to alter my skin care regiment. Personally, colder weather means drier skin and dry/flaky lips. To fight against skin looking dried out and unhealthy, water and Palmer’s Cocoa butter lotion are my go to. Palmer’s is inexpensive and can be found at the local drugstore for around $5.

For lips, I like to exfoliate my lips. There are different ways to do this. The cheapest and easiest option is to use a toothbrush and gently run the bristles in circular motions over lips. By doing this, flaky lips are no more. Another way to exfoliate is by making a homemade lip scrub.  It is relatively cheap and easy to create. For this recipe there are only three ingredients, coconut oil, honey and brown sugar.  While this particular recipe prefers to use organic ingredients, it is not mandatory. Either way, get ready to say goodbye to flaky lips!

 Brown Sugar Lip Scrub

INGREDIENTS

1 tablespoon Raw Coconut Oil (Extra virgin olive oil can be substituted)

2 tablespoons Brown Sugar

1 teaspoon Honey

Small glass jar

DIRECTIONS

1.     Combine all ingredients in a small glass jar.

2.     Scoop a tiny amount onto your finger and gently rub on lips, moving in a circular motion for about 1 minute. Rinse with a warm damp cloth.
