10 Things to Do in the Fall around Clemson

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Clemson chapter.

If you’re looking to be at one with nature, or just some cool Instagram worthy photos, be sure to check out Issaqueena Falls.

Craving adventure? Wildwater Rafting takes full or half day tours out on the Chattooga, and you can even choose to do zipline canopy tours or kayak tours.

  • Your tour starts in North Carolina, and you raft into North Georgia and Upstate South Carolina.

Living on college budget is hard, but we all know our shopping budget is most important. Head on over to Gaffney’s Premium Outlets for great shopping for cheap.

  • In Gaffney, SC, about an hour and a half drive from Clemson.

Visit one of the largest corn mazes in the area right in Anderson! This is a classic fall activity, and a ticket for the day is only $12. Besides a corn maze, other activities include hayrides, a climbing wall, farm animals, zip line and a pumpkin patch.

  • Their season ends November 3rd, so be sure to hit it up soon! Who wouldn’t want to dress up in their cutest fall sweaters and boots for an afternoon? Think of the Instas.

Downtown Greenville is the closest thing we have to a city, so if you have a car, it’s the perfect place for day trips. The boutiques are adorable, and sometimes all a girl really needs is some shopping therapy and a non-Schilleter meal to feel great am I right?

  • Tip: the high-end boutiques are on Augusta Road.

Head over to Greenville to check out the Greenville Zoo. Possible date night activity for sure, or go with a bunch of your girlfriends if you’re not up to going out that night. You can go through the whole zoo in about an hour, and can explore Greenville the rest of the night.

  • Take 123 all the way to West Washington and follow the signs. Tickets are $8.75.

If you’re a Halloween fanatic like myself, Darkness Pines is the place for you. This 10 acre haunted trail is open from October 18-20 and October 24-November 2, so plan a trip ASAP. Admission is $10 and if you’re feeling immortal feel free to request an Xtreme Tour, ages 18+.

  • Right off Highway 413, definitely go for a good scare.

Looking for some fresh produce? Schilleter’s fruit is just not cutting it for me, so I went to Clemson’s farmers market on Issaqueena Trail. Supporting the community while getting fresh fruit and homemade arts and crafts makes this a no brainer.

  • Open Fridays 3:30-6:30 rain or shine.

The beautiful South Carolina weather, unlike my Chicago weather, is beautiful almost all the time. Take advantage of it now and hit up Lake Hartwell and Keowee while you can.

  • Y-Beach is obviously the place to be.

Finally, even though it’s in Columbia (ew), the South Carolina State Fair is a must-see. There’s rides, fried food and live music, what more could you ask for? It’s only $10, and looks right out of a Nicholas Sparks book.
