It feels like just yesterday that the days were filled with soaking up the summer sun, eating freezies, and drinking pink lemonade….

Oh but wait….let’s snap back into reality. Now it has officially hit zero degrees and flip flops are no longer an option. We’re already into the middle of the semester and midterms and papers are coming one after another.

Don’t let school work get the best of you! Find ways to study effectively and healthily. I find by following just a few simple steps, I stay on top of work, as well as find time for other things — like exploring this amazing city we’re in.

  1. Study Effectively– By this I mean focus hard, but take how ever many breaks you need (without procrastinating). Take a walk around the block, reply to a few texts, or even and go have a snack. It isn’t healthy to be cooped up studying for hours on end without even a washroom break
  2. Go to Class- Even if your lectures are recorded and you’re having a ‘lazy’ day, don’t skip class. You will miss important information or dates.
  3. Stay Hydrated and Eat– Personally, I struggle to drink water consistently, but it is a key ingredient to studying well. Water helps your brain work at it’s best capacities — definitely needed during midterm time. Don’t forget to also feed your tummy with good healthy meals and snacks, such as smoothies or fruit. If your body isn’t being taken care of, you won’t succeed.
  4. Do Yoga– Yoga has been my savior! Find the time to join in on a yoga class. Allow your mind to relax and let the toxins leave your body. There are plenty of student-friendly priced studios in Montreal. Check out Ha Yoga on Rue Mackay, or Moksha Yoga on St. Laurent.
  5. Be Sociable– It isn’t a crime to check your phone every now and then or to meet a friend for a coffee at a cute cafe in order to give yourself a break
  6. Get Sleep– Montreal is a wild city with lots of things going on. Be careful not to get too wrapped up in the party scene! Going out three or four nights in row won’t do your studying any justice.
  7. Go Explore– There are endless hidden spots to see in Montreal. Take a few hours once a week to take a look at the city you’re living in! (You may end up finding the perfect study place.)

By following each of these easy steps you’ll feel much better about getting back into the study routine. Remember you’re at school to study hard, but also enjoy yourself. Make studying a fun, positive part of your day and you will do well in your classes, and other areas of your life.
