The midterms season is upon us! If your neighbors are blasting loud music or you’re dozing off in bed with your head between your textbook, here are a couple of places where I suggest you get your study on:
1. The UCLA Franklin D. Murphy Sculpture Garden
Armed with a picnic blanket, healthy snacks (Trader Joe’s trail mix and a few slices of orange are my go-to munchies) and a backpack filled with textbooks, I usually settle under a tree and then get into my readings. You don’t always have to do your studying in a confined library to get the best results – I prefer to soak up the sun and enjoy the breeze. This garden is incredibly beautiful during Spring quarter, so be sure to check it out!
2. Between the arches of Royce Hall
This is the ultimate UCLA experience – if you haven’t done it before, you’re missing out. If you’ve got an hour or two in between classes, you can slip between two pillars in Royce hall. Enjoy your sweeping view of Janss Steps, Powell Library and the gorgeous green grass around you. It’s the perfect place if you’re up for some sunbathing.
3. Jimmy’s Coffee House
For those of you who like to study under a roof, make your way to Jimmy’s Coffee House. There’s something so wonderfully cozy and quaint about this coffee house (it’s probably the fireplace), and the staff is very friendly. The noise level is comforting and easy to tune out, so it won’t be hard to concentrate. I like to look through my notes with a hot cup of caramel latte and a rainbow sprinkled donut.
