RU Ready To Stay Nutritious?: 3 Simple Snacks That Are Perfect For Taking To Class

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rutgers chapter.

Many college students find themselves having classes at awkward times which cause them to eat at awkward times. For example, there is that 6:10 time slot. Five o’clock is too early for some students to eat dinner and 7:30 is too late sometimes. So what do you do? Take a healthy snack with you to class to hold you over ’til dinner. This way, students do not have to eat early or be starving while in class, waiting to eat as soon as they get out. Here are three easy snacks students can take with them to class:

  1. An Apple – Now an apple is probably the easiest because you do not have to do anything to prepare it ahead of time. Students can literally grab their apple and go. It’s perfect because it can be eaten on the way to class or during class. This snack is filling enough to tie you over for an hour and twenty minutes, but still is just enough to let you be hungry enough for dinner. Just make sure you buy some apples ahead of time so you have them stocked up and ready to go!
  2. Cereal – What is more simple than cereal when it comes to preparing a snack? Nothing! For this, all you need is some plastic baggies readily available and your cereal of choice picked out. Take a few minutes before class to put some cereal in a baggie. It’s literally that easy. Remember, not all cereals are healthy. Make sure to buy a cereal that has whole grains and is low on the sugar. Cereals with whole grains help prevent diabetes and heart disease, keep that in mind!

  3. Trail Mix – This snack is very easy to make and also gives you a lot of choice for what you want to eat. To keep it on the healthy side, make sure you incorporate nuts, seeds, a low amount of dried fruit, grains and a little something sweet, like M&Ms, for example. This snack does not take long to put together and is also perfect for taking to class. Pick out your favorite trail mix items, mix them together, put them in a baggie and you’re ready for class!

Those awkward class times no longer have to be a struggle. Use this simple snack guide to get through the day in a healthy way!
