The Best Girl Group Halloween Costumes for 2013

One of the best parts of the Halloween season is coming up with ideas for group costumes to wear out with your girls. Unfortunately, a lack of creativity can cause you to end up being one of five groups of Spice Girls at the party. Not to worry, collegiettes; we’ve got you covered! Check out these five great and totally unique group costumes just for you and your ladies!

Hipster Disney Princesses

Dressing up as your favorite childhood princess can seem a little tired. Spice things up by adding a twist with this group costume inspired by the popular memes. All it takes is an old Disney princess costume and a trip to your nearest thrift store to add a hipster touch. Be sure to accentuate the coolness of your costumes by adding flannel shirts, scarves and black-rimmed glasses (a hipster staple). Add a final touch by creating funny signs inspired by the memes with statements like, “I’m a pretty obscure Disney princess… you probably haven’t heard of me.” And, of course, don’t forget the endless Instagram photos.

Loofahs

This super easy costume will take you no longer than a half hour to make, and the option of different colors makes this idea perfect for a group. All you need is 20 to 25 feet of nylon matte netting, enough 1-inch elastic to tie around your waist twice and your bust once, one package of ¼-inch elastic in black or white and a white rope.

Measure and cut the netting into eight pieces that are approximately 2.5 yards each. Then, fold the netting into thirds and cinch it at the middle using a small piece of the ¼-inch elastic to secure. Finally, attach the netting bundles to the waist and bust bands, throw it on over similarly colored shorts and tank tops and call yourself a loofah! Add “bubbles” by attaching clear plastic balls, which can be found at your local craft store.

Minions

These super cute creatures from the Despicable Me movies can easily be made into a group costume using items that you most likely already have in your wardrobe. The key component is a neon yellow top. The chose of a sports bra, a bandeau, a tank top or even just a yellow T-shirt is your choice. From there you can either throw on a pair of overall shorts or high-wasted jeans with suspenders attached. Finally, add the finishing touch to your costumes by adding a backwards neon yellow baseball cap and black-rimmed glasses.

Orange Is the New Black Characters

This summer smash hit series makes the perfect girl group costume due to its almost entirely female cast. Designate one of your friends to be Piper Chapman and wear an orange jumpsuit with TOMS, and your other friends can be various cast members based on their personalities. Have the yoga-obsessed member of the group be Yoga Jones and walk around saying, “Namaste.” The foodie in your group can be Red and don a hairnet and a cook’s outfit while speaking with a heavy Russian accent.

The Bling Ring

Inspired by the group of teens known as the Hollywood Hills Burglar Bunch, who targeted celebrity homes to steal clothes, jewelry and cash from celebs like Lindsay Lohan, The Bling Ring was a hit this summer, and this tragically fabulously group of teens would make for a great group costume. The key to this costume is to wear an excessive amount of designer clothing (or knockoffs, if you want to keep things cheap). Carry an overly large purse in one bejeweled hand and a Starbucks cup in the other. Talk all night about how your lawyer really advised you not to be at this party, but you just want to have fun!

Now all you have to do is grab your girls and get planning! Let us know if we left any great ideas off the list in the comments below!
