Manchester is famous for its rainy days. So instead of wasting the day thinking of all the things you could be doing, check out some of these ideas and give them a go. It’ll definitely help brighten up those miserable rainy days!

1. Watch a movie with friends or with a special someone.

There are plenty of rainy day movies out there, seeing as we’re getting close to Christmas and the winter is drawing in, maybe try out The Holiday, or if you’re looking for a great chick flick then here’s one (of the many) list of the Top Chick Flicks of all time. Scary movies work well if it’s just the two of you, a cuddle to keep away the scary monsters and the rain!

2. Or go to the cinema…

There are some brilliant films on at the moment, so if you’re brave enough to venture outside then head down to the Odeon, Cornerhouse, or AMC Cinemas to treat yourself to the full, popcorn and ridiculously large coke experience.

3. Cook/bake – making food is a great way to practise those essential skills, as well as have a good time. Eating it all is definitely the best part!

You can literally find a recipe to whatever you desire on the internet, so check out these websites to find out how to make these delicious Devil Food Cupcakes and a few rather easy pizzas! The perfect rainy day treat.

4. Create a new playlist.

Music makes everything better. Making the most of a rainy day to create your own new playlist is perfect. Snuggle under the duvet, open up iTunes, explore, and make up a playlist that you can rock out when the rain (eventually) comes back.

5. Make a fort – blankets, pillows, mattresses, duvets can all be put to good use in the creation of a fort.

My favourite idea. Get a load of your friends together, as many pillows, blankets, duvets, mattresses as you can and no matter whether you’re in Halls or a house, MAKE A FORT. Perhaps a fort which you can then use to do all the other rainy day activities in… Don’t worry if you feel a bit like a child, we all need to let out that side once in a while.

6. Get out the board games…

Another activity that is highly underrated. Whether it’s monopoly, scrabble or my absolute favourite – Twister – the board game will keep you entertained for hours. You can even spice things up by including my next tip!

7. Drink lots of wine…

As Uni students this one may come as a surprise…. But get a few of the girls over and open up a bottle of wine (or your preferred alcohol) and have a few glasses. Definitely something that will pass the time, and leave you with a few hilarious stories for the next day!

8. For those lucky to have a love interest, spend some time and get to know one another.

Rainy days are perfect for a cuddle and a chat. Ask that special someone over and spend a few hours with each other! It’ll either get slightly boring, or you’ll end up falling head over heels after listening to that weird personal story he/she just told you. Take a chance ladies!

9. Try your hand at nail art.

Now I am no expert at nail art, and a make-over just takes too much preparation so round up all your nail polishes, a few girlies, and experiment on some new nail designs. Halloween is coming up girls, so a few ghostly nails won’t do any harm! (It’ll also be good practise for those, who like myself, are absolutely hopeless when it comes to painting nails…)

10. Or get out there and dance in the rain!

Those brave enough to do so should just get out there and enjoy the rain. I’d avoid it if it was feeling pretty chilly, though a hot shower is always perfect after a cold day in the rain. And who knows, the wine may help your bravado a little!
