Exeter certainly isn’t short of places to eat. From breakfast to dinner and everything in between (which in Exeter includes coffee, brunch, lunch and afternoon tea!) there is always something to hit the spot. With so many places to choose from, it can be difficult to choose where to go, particularly with such a great selection of independent eateries. Here in Exeter, most people know their staple favourites, I myself never being one to refuse a trip to Boston Tea Party, or if someone is to suggest going to Bills for dinner I will always put off my essay until tomorrow night. But as of last summer, ‘The Cosy Club’ was a new addition to the list, and rather near the top it has very quickly shot. Having opened in April, this is one of the best new places to go. I recently visited with my good friend Claudia for breakfast, and what a lovely surprise it was!

On arrival, you find yourself thankful for eventually finding the restaurant! It is slightly out of the way, towards the Quay and round a corner, so we found ourselves sighing relief when we finally reached the restaurant, particularly as we felt 11am a little too late for breakfast! Once we sat down in the main dining area, we felt immediately cosy and interested in the room itself. Many vintage pieces adorn the walls – think deer heads shabby chic furnishings – and with the long room and bright windows, you feel as if you have entered a fabulous country mansion for the morning.

The service was quick and efficient (complete with friendly and slightly quirky staff), and there is a huge array of dishes to choose from. Despite having a lot to chat about, we found ourselves having to delay our conversation just to choose what to have from the menu! From eggs of all variety, to a full English breakfast, complete with all the toast, tea and smoothies you can think of, we were rather stumped as to what to have. We debated over many of The Cosy Club’s signature dishes also, such as their Ham Hock Hash which consists of ham hock, fried potatoes and egg, or the Cosy Eggs, poached eggs served with served with an array of additional items! After much debate, I chose the Buttermilk Pancakes with summer berries, and Claudia chose the Creamed Scrambled Eggs. I also had a pot of tea whilst Claudia chose a smoothie.

Our food really was delicious. Very tasty and filling, with a little twist in both dishes. For example, my berries also had mint in with them, and Claudia’s eggs were served with smoked salmon and sour cream. We were very pleased with our choices as they certainly did hit the spot! Such delicious food in a unique setting was very much enjoyed.

On our way out we also glanced at the cocktail menu, and having heard multiple good reviews of the drinks and evening atmosphere, I will certainly be returning to try out The Cosy Club once more! Whilst there are many places to eat and drink in Exeter, The Cosy Club really does come near the top of my list, it is unique, of high quality and I already want to go back to try it all over again.
