Spread The Cheer: Why Early Holiday Spirit is Totally Acceptable

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ithaca chapter.

It’s November, and you know what that means: WHIP OUT THOSE HOLIDAY SWEATERS! No shame, it’s the winter season. It’s totally fine to throw on Elf and start singing Pennies From the Heavens (Shoo-bee-doo-bee). Here are some reasons why:

Red Starbucks Cups

November 1st marks the punctual return of Christmas in a cup. As your Twitter and Instagram feeds blow up with these holiday themed beverage containers, you can bet they’re filled with holiday cheer in the form of Gingerbread Lattes, Peppermint Mochas, Eggnog Lattes and even Caramel Brule Lattes. Have a very coffee Christmas and a caffeinated New Year.

Music = Merry

JUST HEAR THOSE SLEIGH BELLS JING-A-LIN, RING-TING-TING-A-LIN TOO. You can’t deny that holiday music just makes you happy – and nothing’s wrong with that. Whether it’s Michael Buble, Justin Bieber or the classic Mariah Carey tunes, they’re guaranteed to coax you into the spirit. And come on…the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!

Sweater Weather

Sure, it might be chilly. But digging out those cozy sweaters from the back of the closet just makes you smile. Pair it with leggings, boots, and your favorite scarf – cute and comfortable.

Justified Shopping

It’s a sin to NOT go shopping on Black Friday, right? An excuse to go out and spend a little dough is bound to get you in the mood. Buying gifts for your family, significant other, friends (and yourself) and just imagining their faces when they open them makes breaking the bank a little more heartwarming. Merry coupon-ing!

The weather outside is frightful…

…But getting class cancelled is so delightful. Snow days, people! Who doesn’t love an excuse to stay inside with a nice cup of cocoa, Netflix, and a fake virtual iPad fireplace? I say bring it on.

Good Deeds and Good Moods

The holiday time is perfect for community service. Check out local soup kitchens and homeless shelters and see what you can do. Good vibes and fuzzy feelings are a no-brainer for holiday spirit. People will find your good mood and good nature contagious!

Don’t Be a Scrooge

(But do watch every version of A Christmas Carol because they’re all spectacular.) It’s never too early to show your spirit. Holiday spirit = happy people, and that’s way better than being a Debbie-Downer any day. Live everyday with holiday cheer!
