There’s nothing better than flipping through the pages of your favorite book, taking in the smell of the well-loved pages. If you’re anything like me, a good novel can seem to pass by way too quickly, and I find myself vying for something else to read. That’s is exactly why I’ll be frequenting the huge book sale going on at Gordon Library, located at 1500 Gordon Avenue, from now through November 17th, 10:00a.m-7:00p.m.
The sale benefits the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library in their efforts to provide education enrichment to both children and adults. Proceeds from the sale will go towards various programs and projects at the library, such as enhancing their book collection and maintaining their educational resources. This past spring’s sale raised $98,000 – a figure they hope to surpass this season. The money was certainly put towards a good cause, as it was used to purchase a van to provide a “traveling library” for the elderly and handicapped.
Books, recordings, games, and puzzles will all be available for purchase. And, if you’re interested in adding any valuable books to your collection, they will be plentiful (Here’s a list so you can start planning some of your purchases; Valuable Books). All books being sold have been donated from community members or libraries, and I can assure you there will be tons of them. Seriously, it will be a bookworm’s paradise. If you’re interested in attending, here are a few tips to make the best of your trip!
1. Go early! You don’t want to miss out on finding your new favorite book, so check out the sale before everyone else does.
2. Make multiple trips. The abundant supply of books will be re-stocked several times over the course of the sale to ensure there’s always plenty for everyone. Don’t hold back from browsing on more than one occasion!
3. Bring a reusable bag. I can bet that by the time you make your way through all the shelves, you’ll be thanking me for this one. A bag will allow you to carry as many books as you desire, and even better if it’s reusable and environmentally friendly!
4. Browse, browse, browse. There will be sections for all genres of books (classics, criticism, etc), so make sure you take a good look around- there’s something for everybody!
