Do you love helping children in need? Of course you do! Do you love waffles? Absolutely! Then the lovely women of Lady Spirithunters (LSH) want to see your beautiful face at their fall philanthropy, Waffles for Wishes, benefitting FSU’s chapter of Camp Kesem. Come out to Kellum Hall on Sunday, November 24th where LSH will run a waffle bar where you can stack your plate with waffles and delicious toppings! All proceeds of this event will go directly to Camp Kesem!

Camp Kesem is an amazing organization, and we are lucky to have a chapter here at Florida State. Camp Kesem helps kids whose parents have or had cancer. They provide free summer camps to these kids, and give them lifelong peer support and friendships. The organization is run by college students nation-wide, and is a unique cause.

Sometimes the emotional support of children whose parents have cancer are unnoticed, and these kids have to deal with these personal tragedies on their own. Thankfully, Camp Kesem is all about “giving kids the opportunity to be kids,” (http://campkesem.org/about-us) making a huge impact on children since 2000.

Camp Kesem has not only made a difference in the lives of these kids, but it has also empowered college student leaders around the country. Every camp is run and organized by college students who gain experience in fields like project management and marketing. Camp Kesem encourages student participants to discover and strive on their passion for helping and serving others.

Convinced that Camp Kesem is awesome yet? Well if you’re CRAZY and you aren’t feelin’ it quite yet, check out this video of the incredible EJ Manuel, whose mom was diagnosed with breast cancer, supporting Camp Kesem’s powerful cause:

Oh, what a guy . . .

Anyway, most of us cannot commit ourselves to running a summer camp for these kids, so let us lend Camp Kesem a helping hand as best we can! Join Lady Spirithunters Sunday, November 24th to enjoy a wonderful waffle bar to send these children to camp. Find a Lady Spirithunter (such as myself) to buy a ticket from for $5, and you’re all set to go. Make it a shindig and dress in your Sunday best if you like! However you decide to come, Lady Spirithunters and Camp Kesem will appreciate the support immensely.

To make things even better, LSH will be raffling off some fantastic prizes throughout the event! So be sure to enter the raffle.

Waffles for Wishes will be located in Kellum Hall on campus, so if you live on our beautiful campus, this is truly the event for you! If not, there is plenty of parking around the residence hall, so take a quick break from those end-of-semester projects and help this amazing cause!

Remember, it’s to give kids the opportunity to be kids.
