Christmas decorations are going up, the Starbucks cups are red and we’ve had our first snowfall. Let’s face it, winter is here. With the weather getting colder, our skin is changing and that means so should our beauty routine!

Here are 5 easy tips to help you transition your beauty routine into winter:

1. Lock in the moisture
In the colder months our skin tends to get drier and therefore needs much more moisture. Switch out your summer gel-based cleanser for a gentle one, like Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser (Shoppers Drug Mart, $10), or Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil (The Body Shop, $9.60). As scary as cleansing oil sounds, it works wonders. It thoroughly gives your skin a nice cleanse without leaving your skin feeling dry. What more could you want, right?

2. Go bold
Winter is a great time to try something new, and to go bold with your makeup. Try a dark polish, like Revlon’s Vixen (Shoppers Drug Mart, $6), a gorgeous deep purple colour or something like Essie’s After School Boy Blazer (Shoppers Drug Mart, $10), which is a uniquely flattering dark blue, and bonus, it has an adorable name. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, try a dark burgundy lip (a huge trend right now) or, if you want to play it a little more safe, go for a classic black winged liner look.

3. Add the dew
Put down your powder and all the mattifying products that you used in the summer and reach for products that will add dewiness to the skin, such as BB cream! The healthy dewy skin look can easily be achieved by either adding a little highlighter to the cheekbones, brow bones and cupid’s bow or for something a little simpler, just add a little moisturizer to your regular foundation.

4. Feature the brows
A big trend right now are thick, full brows that are neat but strong. Let your brows grow out a little more than you usually would, or fake it by filling them in with an eye shadow or pencil, while keeping them neat. We can’t all look like Cara Delevingne, but we can try, right?

5. Spice up your fragrance.

Trade that sweet, fruity summer fragrance for something a little more spicy, warm, and sexy. Even simpler, change up the scent of your body wash! For something moisturizing and fragrant, try Dover’s Shea Butter with Warm Vanilla scented body wash (Shoppers Drug Mart, 7$)  to add something a little special to your daily routine.
