If fashionable collegiettes had it their way there would be 80% student discounts at Nordstrom, Chanel bags given as gifts upon acceptance into college and a fashion allowance funded by the student activities fund.
Unfortunately, life on campus isn’t exactly like this. So we’re stuck being frugal. Luckily these days, it’s not hard to be a recessionista. Especially when there are books like The Cheap Chicas Guide to Style by Lilliana Vazquez.
Lilliana, who started as a blogger, told Her Campus about her beginnings in the frugal fashion sphere. “My blog is the go-to online destination for frugal fashionistas who love to shop cheap but look chic! The blog features the best trends and hottest finds for under $100 every single day. I started the blog in 2008 with one goal – to give new meaning to the word “cheap” and show women that style and saving were not mutually exclusive!”
As an every-girl kind of blogger, Lilliana gets her fashion inspiration the same places we do.
“I’m addicted to the internet so I’m constantly scouring Instagram, tumblr, and twitter,” she explained. “My favorite fashion sites and personal style blogs for trends and inspiration! I love Into The Gloss for beauty, Wendy’s Lookbook for feminine style and Atlantic-Pacific for a little west-coast flair!”
Of her book, which came out earlier this month, she says, “Think of this book as the bible of budget fashion! It’s the first time a book has ever combined styling, shopping and saving all into one very fashionable package! I wrote this book for savvy shoppers like me who have Balenciaga taste on a Banana Republic budget… it’s a comprehensive guide to everything you need to know on shopping cheap and looking chic!
What we loved the most about the book were the detailed shopping lists Lilliana provides — it makes being stylish easy for anyone (not to mention, the shopping lists actually involve things we can afford).
