There are so many things about having sisters that are amazing, but I would have to say that sharing a closet may take the cake. Don’t get me wrong, I love my sisters more than anything, which is why I can say that I feel no shame in instituting the cardinal rule of sister closet sharing: what’s mine is yours. This rule makes shopping every holiday season significantly more involved for all three of us as we try to find each other the perfect Christmas gifts. I spend hours scouring malls, vintage stores, Pinterest, and online boutiques looking for unique clothes or accessories that my sisters will love.
But, I must confess that when I am looking for their presents, I am also thinking about how after New Year’s, all bets are off and it’s pretty much a free for all so it’s important that all parties enjoy the present as well. While my sisters and I all have very different styles, tastes, and shoe sizes (tragically), we always manage to find something universally flattering for all three of us, and any friends that many also take a trip through our closets as well.
This may sound like endless fun and happiness, but there have also been many arguments over who the sweater actually belongs to, where the expensive necklace is allowed to go (dive bars are a no go), and how long pieces can be borrowed for before chaos ensues (no out of state travel). It is also always fun when you see pictures of your sisters pop up on Facebook wearing off-limits items.
While I have lost what seems like many the majority of my wardrobe to my sisters, and been in many family pictures of us all wearing similar outfits on different occasions (awkward), I would not change it for the world, and I can’t wait to continue the search for the ultimate Christmas presents for this year!
